"The war has 'too much of a human cost'," says one of the first active-duty service members and Iraq veterans to file an appeal of redress through a whistleblower provision in military law.

The number of military service members protesting the Iraq War through official communication to their members of Congress nearly doubled since Monday to 118 soldiers and Marines, according to a lawyer consulting the group.

Both House candidates (seeking to replace Rep. Bernard Sanders, I-Vt., who is running for U.S. Senate), expressed support for protesting service members.

"I appreciate anyone who contributes to a change in Iraq," said Democratic candidate Peter Welch, pro tem of the state Senate. "I'd like our troops to be heard."

Welch said he supports withdrawing American troops from Iraq by the end of 2007 and suggested that troops could become involved in shaping a new strategy on Iraq by testifying before Congress."

US servicemen get the brunt of the costs due to selfish politicians irregardless of their affiliation. Nation building takes time and NOT everyone in the world wants to have an American lifestyles. America is not the only one that has a culture and a lifestyle. As for me,I love my American lifestyle even though Hollywood California is becoming more expensive to rent.

America needs to vocally call for help from its Muslim allies. They need manpower that can the civil disorder in check. Manpower that is not such an appealing target for jihadic snipers and bombers, especially if they can't tell if a particular Muslim soldier is Shiite or Sunni. What kind of jihadic hero would return to his country-of-origin bragging of 21 kills -- 7 crosses/stars and 15 crescents!?

If the US asks its Muslim allies quietly for help, they'll get quietly turned down, because, frankly, the US has no real Muslim allies. They all probably would like the US to lose face and run with its tail between its legs even if it means another half-a-million of their fellow Muslims perish in the ensuing power struggle.

Maybe it should be the UN who should do the calling. If not maybe the US can open its embassies in Muslim nations to recruits willing to fight "the great hatred within Islam," save Muslim lives in Iraq, give force to the voice of Muslim moderation, not to mention gain US citizenship and a generous cash bonus for their families. They need not be trained to be soldiers, just policemen and security guards. Maybe these guys can even fly a new flag that is a combination of the Islamic crescent and the UN symbol.

i dont think the soldier has the right to question anything. it is an order and we are an army at war. we have been at war for the last 5 years and i dont see it changing. these soldiers signed up for that understanding the cost they could pay. SGT Wagner 4-319 Airborne

No.

I think most service members think these guys are Idiots. I personally hope they all go to jail for violating the UCMJ.

If they want to get out of the military and then protest, that is up to them.
