I suppose they must be if you listen to the teachings of islam about women. I'm hearing this kind of thing alot and from muslim women. i feel so sad that they must live their lives in such constant fear. I'm now frightened of muslims i don't know and would never trust a muslim man if i was on my own. for a western christian woman i dress modestly and behave with self-respect but am often subjected to unwanted attention by muslim men, who think western women are whores and want sex all the time. not all muslim men are like this but it seems to be a part of their interpretation of islam. they are not required to take responsability for themselves and are sex obsessed.

Presumably they didn't suggest that only Muslim men were unable to control themselves around women. They think it's the case for ALL men and women, and therefore they go with these rules in their religion to prevent rape. Not because they are Muslim men specifically, but because they are men. I assume they apply the same logic to Westerners, decide that women are raped in our countries because they go out of their way to tempt the men, and have decided to tackle the issue in their culture by putting women in veils so that Muslim men will not have "reason" to commit this act. Never have they suggested Muslim men are more prone to being a rapist than others, simply that they'll take more extreme measures to prevent it.
Note that this is my assumption of THEIR logic, and not mine. I disagree with it all, I wear whatever I like and if anyone should attack me they better take full responsibility.
Anyway it sounds like you don't agree either, and were trying to make a point by asking this? I don't think many people got that.

This is the logical conclusion any sane person would arrive at.
Sharia law is an abomination on Humanity.
To the extent the Law encourages rape.
However on the goodnews side:-
Pakistan's government has vowed to pass a bill "at all costs" to help rape victims prosecute their attackers. Under a current law, rape cases require the testimonies of four witnesses, making convictions extremely difficult. A woman who claims she was raped but fails to prove it risks being prosecuted for adultery - which is punishable by death.
Pray to Allah that women will be spared this torture.

Unfortunately, to some extent, all men are viewed as potential rapists. I guess it's something we all have to come to terms with.

The quote wasn't about rape apparently. It was a translation error
But I see your logic. One Muslim says something, so every Muslim is tuned to his thoughts .
last week I read that a British football hooligan was going to start a fight on Saturday.
I'm white and British, so does that mean I and every other Brit is a football hooligan?
I also read about an American who insisted we all came from an alien planet. Does that mean every American is bonkers?
I've just read a Yahoo Question from a person with no common sense at all. (Your question).
So are we all a bit mentally challenged now?

I think all men and some women have the potential to be rapists. I know a few Muslim men and couldn't have nicer to talk to. The respect I get from them and the respect I have for them could not be replaced. I am not a Muslim and don't believe that just Muslim men are rapists..

All muslim men are not rapists, because despite their religion they inherently know what's right & wrong.
But it's good that the cleric has come out with this quote as it allows others to understand how the islamists think. Sadly much of what the cleric says is endorsed in the koran.

It would be totally unfair to treat all muslim men rapists. There are so many members of different religion wdo were convicted rapist. This issue came into light maybe becuase its at the helm of the news at present. It was, unfortunately, told by a senior person that was treated as an opinion of all muslim. Let us not overlook that spokepersons/senior persons of the same religion throughout Australia 'condemned' the 'misunderstood' person.
I am not a muslim but I will work wholeheartedly to patch differences in the most peaceful and civlized way.

STOP! STOP right now!
Free women? Pro-rata, more women go to University in Iran than in Switzerland. So they wear the veil, or the chador, but at least they get an education.
Don't forget, that the expression 'a free woman' meant something totally different in the 1950s. Not even smart enough to charge.
Not that long ago, women in Churches covered their heads. And the history behind it was that men were distracted by the beauty of women's hair.
Guess there are no so-called Christian rapists around. Get real!
Every time something like this question appears, we go one step nearer to a war of religion.
My step-son, a non.Muslim Turkish citizen just returned from a few days in Paris. He had Muslim beads hanging from his rear-view mirror. 'What is that?' I asked. Because he was visiting relations who live in a suburb of Paris where there has been unrest, his sister said, 'Put the beads on the mirror, otherwise, your car might be torched.'
We have to start a dialogue. Invective doesn't help.

I'm not going to go into an anti-Muslim rant but this can occur in other cultures too. There was a case in Swaziland where a woman was raped because she wore a mini-skirt. "She asked for it." I find it very disturbing in this world that there are such men who feel they have the right to a woman's body.
It's education, education, education.
And of course, no woman should wear a prostitute's uniform. Not that prostitutes don't have a say over their own body, either. It's all hypocrisy.

Again, you are basing your statements on what one person has said. The cleric speaks for himself, not for a whole nation of people. You cant generalise like that. Of course all muslim men arent rapists. Thats like saying because Judas, a christian, denied Jesus 3 times, all chrisitians are liars. Again, obviously not true. Dont base your opinion on what one person says, rather research what others of the same group of people think, then make a decision.
