It is very common to have pain with ovulation, IF SOMETHING IS WRONG!!! Where do you people get off telling this woman that it is normal??? I don't care if you are a doctor, Dr. Drew!!! You are also a man!!!
The most common cause of this pain is a cyst on your ovary. I heard that it was normal until I was 27 (pain started at 15) and my cyst ruptured and I nearly bled to death. My doctor who treated me for the cyst was appalled that any doctor would tell a woman that it was "normal" to have pain. Pain is the body's way of telling us that there is a problem.
Please go see your doctor the next time this happens. Schedule an appointment for the middle of your cycle so she can actually see the cyst on ultrasound. I say "she" because women are more likely to listen to your problems with an open mind and not brush off your concerns as "crazy woman's imaginary problems".
Insist on a transvaginal ultrasound. This is how they finally saw the problem I had. Please, before you end up with a scar like the one I have where they had to split me open to save my life.

Many people have recommended that you see your physician and I recommend that you do what you want to as this board is no substitute for a doctor.
As a doctor, I can tell you that pain around the time of ovulation is normal and the medical term for it is mittleschmerz.
You are lucky because in studies of fertility, women who have mittleschmerz has an increased chance of pregnancy because they can time their ovulation and intercourse.
BTW: if this is a problem for you it can be easily corrected by starting birth control pills.

Alot of women, including myself, experience pain around the time of ovulation, in some this can be quite severe.
However, this pain should only last for a few hours, as it is inflammation of the ovaries prior to the actual egg being released, which causes the pain.
If the pain is lasting for a week I suggest that you see your GP or practice nurse as there could be some underlying cause for this pain.
Good luck, Mel.

Many women experience pain during ovulation, so this is nothing abnormal. Usually, the same remedies are effective as you'd use for menstrual cramps, like ibuprofen and a heating pad on the lower part of your abdomen. Some light exercise, like yoga, can also be helpful.
Hope that might help you a bit!

I used to get those all the time. Right before I would get my period I would start drinking hot tea. The best one is Manzanilla. You can find it in any super market. Its a old remedie from my grandmother. I would drink all the way thru my period and start the process again. When you are on your period keep away from anything cold, spicy, anything has citrus or sodium. Eat a lot of soups. I can gurantee you will feel much better. All you really is coldness. One more thing dont walk barefoot that alos complicates things. Good luck!!!!!!! :)-

Pamprin is an extremely effective pain reliever for female troubles, but if your pain increases during lovemaking, even during ovulation, this concerns me. Most of my women friends tell me that good lovin' relieves the different aches and pains connected with menstrual issues. I would go to your gynoncologist as soon as possible. It is probably nothing, but you cannot be to careful. My best friend got cancer at 19 and I buried her at 27, 5 months after her wedding. 12 years later, I still ache for her daily. Your health is a precious gift. PLEASE go to the doctor ASAP.

I would recommend you see a doctor. It may be nothing to worry about, but the pain during sex suggests that it could be something like endometreosis (see link below).
Its normal to get lower abdomen cramps in the early stges of your period, but this shouldn't affect your sex life. I really would suggest you see a doctor just to rule anything out
good luck x

Don't let anyone fool you......pain during sex is NOT normal. It sounds like you need to be checked for ovarian cysts or endometriosis. Make an appointment with your gynecologist, and if you don't have one, go to your local health dept.
In the meantime, use a heating pad wherever it hurts.
