I am delighted that got up some peoples noses however there are cultures that have days as numbers there are cultures that have other names for the days some even have a name for every day of the year so how come the christians dont have Mathew Mark Luke and John days plus another thre biblical names , for the unelightened answerer Akenaton was the pharoe who first declared that there was only ONE god and that was the SUN, and what makes you christians think that you have the only answer, no wonder you are warmongers,ie Iraq

I'm always amused at this kind of ranting. Tell me, why do you think that Christians are stupid? I'm a Christian and I've known about the origins of Christmas and Easter all my life. I's in the encyclopedia and anyone who can read, knows the truth of it. There was someone called Jesus - it's in the historical documents of the time. Look it up.
Of course you're right about Akenaton - maybe he picked up some Israelite ideas???? Who's to say.

But it is the overall picture that is what the Christians value. We try to live by Christian philosophy and yes, we fail miserably. But most of us aren't murderers, rapists or child molestors. Most of us are just people struggling in a difficult life to do good as instructed by Jesus.
And why don't you read through those instructions, seeing you're so knowledgeable. They're actually a very good grounding for people to live by. No lies, no stealing, no adultery. Do unto others as you would have them do to you. Isn't that what everyone on this earth should be striving for?
I read your comment. Here's my reply.
Just a note: The Israelites might not have been living in Egypt, but they were around. And actually, most Christians are very harmonious. Just like most Muslims, Jews etc etc.

Most wouldn't have a problem with what people call the days of the week, it could be anything. Christians are told to worship one god, but nobody could deny there are others who believe in other gods. Just because they are false gods doesn't mean we don't acknowledge that they have names. All names have a meaning, as long as in our hearts we are aware of the one we worship, why would the names of the days of the week matter at all? This seems like a question designed to get a response without actually seeking an answer.

This is only a language thing in English and some other languages. And Saturday comes from Saturn, by the way.

In Greek, for example, there is no reference to the pagan gods in week day names.

We do not acknowledge any other God but the one Living God. as far as Sunday goes, it is merely the name of a day and should be taken as no more than that. people may get confused if we called them day 1, day, 2 day 3 and so on.

a religion is a statute set by man. Christianity is not a religion but a lifestyle. it is true that Christmas and Easter have been horribly commercialised, BUT we do not recognise the tree or the bunny. We recognise the true values of both Christmas and Easter. Do you know what they are??

Other spiritual entities masquerade as gods. They are known as the Principalities, Powers and Thrones. In Daniel 10 they are called Princes or Guardian Angels of Nations. In Psalm 82 God is in a council with them and condemns them for not ruling humanity with justice.

Because their whole religion is a farce and they are to dense to see it?

It is like the colossal joke of easter and christmas, they do not realize the holidays where stolen from pagan ceremonies, and the fact the tree during christmas is all so pagan along with the easter bunny. But christians are the flesh of irony so what ever.

Bybel; Jesus can get on his knees for me, and he aint gonna be praying! too bad he dosn't exist though word has it he is good at that perticuler service ;)

In other languages, the names of the days of the week are different, cos they're DIFFERENT LANGUAGES. Like in some of the Slavic languages, the equivalent of "sunday" means "Resurrection"...

The names of the week are just historical - it doesn't mean anything religious. Who's Akenaton?

It is done as a cultural thing rather than a religious thing.

Quakers traditionally reject pagan names for days of the week and use "First Day", "Second Day" etc.
