I don't think so, no. By cooking them in oil, it means that when you serve them up on your plate, they are likely to be very greasy, this is due to all the oil on the surface of the chip, which is not good for you. Oven chips do not absorb any oils or fats, simply because they are not cooked with any.

An interesting fact as well... thin chips are worse for you, as there is more surface area to get covered in oil!

If you don't eat chips often then it's probably not worth worrying about - chips fried in oil taste much better than oven baked so you'll feel better with those.

I think your dad is spinning you a yarn. Anything fried in fat will contain more fat than the same thing baked, it stands to reason.
You don't pour 2 pints of fat in your baking tray do you ?.
All chips are bad for you, but oven chips aren't as bad as fried chips.

low fat oven chips are healthier but others arent much different to deep fried ones as they are often baked in oil.

i make my own oven chips, cut them up as normal, drissel them with extra virgin olive oil and wack them in the oven for 20 mins

Baking is healthier... You don't have to put any oil on them when you put them in the oven so there is nothing for them to absorb.
