Its true, isn't it? If someone posts a question, and a Christian tries to answer, and makes reference to their faith, they get shot down in flames!!

Another example is when someone, who seems interested in the Christian faith, asks a question, and then non-Christians, to whom it is none of their business (that isn't gramatically correct but I didn't know how to say it) answer and condemn Christians, for example, one person said 'Stay away from churches, they're all evil' when the asker had asked what church to go to.

So why is this? I need genuine reasons, and none of that 'they come calling round my house' nonsense.

Oh and by the way, I'm a Christian myself.

Ok, let me make this clear - a REAL Christian doesn't hate anyone. They don't hate un-believers, they don't hate homosexuals etc. We pray for them....and if you go round 'spreading the truth' or something, surely we are allowed to do the same?

Wonder Wierdo - I am truly sorry for what happenned to you. I really am, but obviously these 'born again Christians' hadn't realised what being a Christian is, and I am afraid that they have damaged the chances of another child of God.
Zariza - How do Christians use their voting to enforce traditions? These are slowly dying out - even in Church schools, they cannot just concentrate on the Christian faith, due to offending other groups (and I do not mean to offend anyone with this comment)
Tom - real Christians do not persecute. Real Christians are persecuted. End of Story.

I don't want to argue, but when I see comments that I think are incorrect, I feel I have to respond.

Its because, you yearn and crave love, from something, you cant touch, smell, or see. Its just weird to the non believing community.
You go out and preach love to everyone, but in reality your just selfish, and only get along with people of the same nature, who will share your ideals. You want to live by a book that in my view is nonsense, and when you break the rules of it, you have your forgiving deity, while the hypocrites molest children, and behind closed doors your just as bad as the rest of the world. You're not special in any way, just lonely.

I am a Christian and can understand why some are hated.
I am a roman catholic, and alot of people only go to mass to see what others are wearing or see who is there. Alot are hypocrites. You go because you want to go, not what other people think. In Ireland years ago, the church was more powerful than politics and what was done here by some, not all, was a total disgrace. No wonder people hate the catholic church. Some abused their authority to the people of their parish. Not all are bad, but seem to be tarnished with the same brush.

Well, because Yahoo is anonymous, people feel they can be more vitrolic, opinionated and make statements not backed up with facts in a way that they wouldn't in face to face conversations.

This isn't reserved for Christians, all groups get abused by some people on this site - there have been vitriolic comments made about all faith groups - and actually i think a tally count at the moment would show more abuse against muslims than christians during the current period (not that this makes it ok). There's abuse against gays, immigrants, ethnic groups, republicans and democrats.
What is frustrating is that there are a lot of posts from individuals that start saying we are persecuted, so we are going to persecutate them back. What I think would be more productive is a more strongly enforced code of conduct about the spirit of the wording of questions and replies - but I guess you can't get that on an open forum like yahoo which so many people use.

So I guess the answer is to confront prejudice with information and enlightened conversation and not lower yourself to their juvenile, pompous, self importance. Everyone who reads their immature posts will know that they are an *** anyway!

People are very disillusioned in this world. They see people stand up and claim to be Christian, then do a bunch of stuff that it completely horrible. (I won't mention names, but you all know someone like this.)
The reason people pick on Christianity is because it is what they see all the time. If Islamic countries weren't all oppressive, exactly the same thing would be happening to them. (No, I'm not suggesting the USA should become oppressive.)
If people actually followed what Jesus said, and lived their lives as though they were Christian there wouldn't be a problem. But people are people, so they go to church on Sunday, sin constantly for the rest of the week, and claim that they are more righteous than everyone else.

I don't call myself a Christian. I've invented my own religion, where we do what Jesus told us to.

So, you're a Christian! Hallelujah! I'm not. I try everyday to be a Christian but I'm a hell of a long way from beatification.
Churches are creepy. The last time I attended Church, the community were welcoming a Muslim convert into their midst. The congregation were invited to pronounce their own submissions to the Trinity. One person said, 'Let us pray for all persecuted Christians though out the world.' Now, that's not Christian! It would have been more Christian to say, 'Let us pray for all the persecuted throughout the world.'
Some extremist Muslims may have lost the plot, but, judging from Yahoo! Answers, many more 'Christians' have no idea what being, or trying to be, a Christian really entails.

As a Hindu, I neverever hate the people of other religion. Moreover, I have many friends who are practicing Christianity. I have sound debate with them about religion. I request everybody to read detail about the religious books like Bible, Gita, Tripitak, Kuran and have a debate on it, otherwise it is more or less useless.

o.k what is true Christianity was brought about by the church to rule the people. all christen festivals come form pagan and were adapted by the church. the church brought in witch hunts to get rid of any body that got in there way especially the women who everyone went to for there medical help. there is a lot more that the so called christens did in the name of god that was wrong . so where or what do you believe if you look hard into Christianity and its back ground then say you believe. If its what you believe then go for it each to there own but look deep into your religion before condemning anyone that does' not believe in your faith they may have good reason.

1) There are always people popping in on questions which don't really pertain to them. Just ignore that, we all have to. (And if you want to see real hate, check out the LGBT section sometime. It can be horrendous.)
2) A lot of Christians are condescending little schmucks who vehemently insist that their way is the only way, including those who insist on making the insults personal via the contact button. Or bragging about how they don't care what we want, they're going to pray for our conversions anyway. There's so much of it, and it's so in your face, that it does make it hard to maintain respect for the Christians who aren't like that. Remember that this is a sensitive issue and be careful how you word things.
3) A lot of Christians insist on seeing the world through the lenses of faith and belief and keep trying to put the rest of us in that same box. Basically that's like cutting off our arms, legs and heads so that we fit a mold. Can we understand why we get frustrated and bored with that? And occasionally pissy. Unfortunate, but human.
4) George W Bush and his (un)holy war machine are terrifying. Not fair that it rubs off on you. Unless you helped put him into office of course.

Just ignore the hate, try to understand and learn from the disagreements and treat everyone with respect. The more we all do that, the better this forum will be.

We will always be opposed by the World (people outside of The Kingdom of God). Jesus promised it. He even said that people will kill us thinking that this is God's will. We are to accept it all with joy. We are to love those that hate us.

The ways of the Kingdom threaten others, because we dare to pursue a life of holiness which is as a bright light, illuminating the injustice and corruption of the world. We have accepted the darkness in us, and turned to Jesus to have it purged from our souls. Those that love their darkness fear that light and try to extinguish it. Or they stand in their own self-proclaimed righteousness, which is no righteousness at all. There is only One who is righteous, Jesus Christ. And He shelters those that are loyal to Him, who have no righteousness of their own, beneath that cloak. So we who are unworthy to be counted as sons of God, are counted worthy because of Christ's Grace.

I don't actually hate christians myself and have in fact have had good friendships with christians through my life. However, I have always struggled with both some of the concervative viewpoints and arrogance of many, not all, christian people.

Traditional christian values help to perpetuate hostility toward my sexuality within society and devalue my relationships supporting views that not only is my relationship is infact harmful to society, that I am therefore immoral, my relationship should not be given recognition and I should be denied rights such as the right to visit my partner in hospital should he be sick, the right to attend his funeral should he die etc..

The other aspect that I find difficult is the arrogant statements such as "god loves you" or "we are all gods children". Given most churches views on me with regard to my sexuality, it seems pretty clear that god does not like me to much actually.

Having said that, there are plenty of Christians out there who do not perpetuate the churches homophobic rhetoric and do not attempt to apply their beliefs on others as I previously outlined.

I don't hate Christians. But I do hate the way they have made life for other people very difficult. This is not restricted to just Christians though. In India, radical Hindus are burning churches and threatening the people to convert to Hinduism. In the Middle East, Arab Christians are always being singled out for violence. But in the United States, they are trying to force their values and ideas on other people.
