According to a well known advice columnist: If someone asks a personal question you do not wish to discuss, simply ask them why they need to know. They will be so dumbfounded that they'll fall silent and think twice about prying next time.
I've never been brave enough to try this myself, but it seems like it would be quite effective.

Really!
Some people...just keep asking and asking?
I sometimes think! wow.......so the best way is''hey enough about me?''.....Tell me all about YOU!
then:
Just ask the same questions to that person, with a huge smile on your face...as if your really really want to know.
They may answer one question?...but I bet they pull-up-short-of another.
These folks are just nosey!!!! I live next door to one.
Try it...it does work, just keep smiling...as to really show a great deal of interest.

tell them straight. Simply say " I don't want to be rude, but your question is too personal" If they are offended by that then they won't ask anymore questions. If they are not offended then keep saying that every time they ask. Either way you win

Here's the answer. 1. first ignore them and just keep on talking about something else (change the subject entirely). 2. Or you can do the "answer a question with a question" - it throws them off completely all of the time.

Like "youdancin" said... Ask them why they ask !! If they don't think asking you is rude, then you asking them WHY THEY ASK is certainly not rude.
If throughout life, people ask you questions that you don't want to answer, simple ask them WHY THEY ASK. It puts the uncomfortable situation back on them and soon they will get the message.
Happy Thursday !

I hate when people always ask what I'm busy with! So now when people ask I generally tell them I import sex toys. The next question is usually, "no really?" and then I respond, "yes, really!"....no more questions follow:)

Give general and vague answers. He/She understand eventually that you don't like nosey persons.

i have printed cards that say "NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS'' and i hand the card to them when they are rude to me by asking personal questions....[if they can give rude.....they can take my being rude back...........[really do not care if it offends them, because they offended me by asking]
