Hi, it's ok to be woried, but try not to drive yourself crazy. You have a finicky eater. I think that your best bet, would be to just keep trying, introduce a food, and stick to it for a week. He wont like it the first shot..or the second...or the third..but if he keeps getting it pput in front of him, he is going to eventually try. This doesnt mean he will like it..so then you will have to change foods, and continue to experiment with different foods. Variety is good for the baby. It is good health wise and also it will teach him to try new things. My youngest son is 22 months, he was a finicky eater, we just kept on and kept on trying different things. We put like five different types of foods on his baby plate. And just let him try different things. He s still funny with his food, but I find now, that he is a little older, that if you leave him alone with his food, and dont sit over him like "try it try it try it" ..he will eat his food without a problem if we are not paying attention. ( or acting like we are not paying attention)
Your baby biy does seem a little light for a 7 month old, but I still wouldnt worry to death ok. Oh I almost forgot to tell you. get him an infant multivitamin..to subsudize his poor eating. It should help to ease your mind a little too knowing that at least he is still getting his vitamines even though he is not eating the foods. The infant vitamins come in drops that are fruit flavored and you can put it in any juice. We use Polyvisol.
It will be ok, but dont stop introducing new foods and continue to try them over and over. Dont stop trying. Eventually his tummy will get hungry and he will want more than just milk or formula. Good Luck Mom.

why are you feeding a five month old solids? They should not be doing solids untill they are about a year old or if they have at least doubled their birth weight and are drinking more than 32 OZ of formula/breast milk per day. In the begining, solids should be used only as an introduction, not a meal, or even a main part of the baby's diet. Babies also go through phases depending on growth, 4OZ at a time is ok, but you must offer that to him multiple (6-8) times per day. Be patient, it can take a while for that little bit to go down. Also, he should be on formula or breast milk until 12 months, not regular milk. When you do introduce solids, try a single grain baby cereal (Gerber makes a good one) and mix the baby's formula in with it. it will be almost soupy at first, and you can work up to a thicker consitancy.

What does "underweight" mean here? Maybe he doesn't fit on a chart where someone thinks he should be.....but he may be perfect for HIM.
Someone has to be at the 90th percentile on the growth chart, someone has to be at the 50th percentile and someone has to be at the 10th percentile. That's how the charts work. Look at mom and dad's size and build. If they are small, expect the child to be a little small.
Had he been growing along one line on the chart and dropped percentiles?
Maybe he's just not ready for solids yet. Don't push it. Offer every now and then and see if he'll take it. 7 mos is still young. Babies don't usually start solids until 6 mos and it is normal for some to take longer. Sometimes a baby who is prone to allergies will refuse solids until they are older. You could try offering him some mashed up fresh bananas or avocados. A lot of babies like those.

I started offering my son rice cereal when he was 6 months old and it wasn't until he was about 7 1/2 months that he actually decided he liked it. Just keep offering it at least once a day. He will get the idea eventually.

u need to keep the following things in mind:
1. never give up. 2. try to keep ur baby hungry before serving solids.3. try giving the following1. rice with dal(Toor dal or moong dal) . ghee is necessary in this food. 2. alu, carrot, beans preferably in equal proportion. steam it mash it.add little salt to taste, ghee. feed ur baby3. oats nicely cooked in little water. mix milk to make it to be a semi solid.
2. never repeat a food consecutive01days particularly when u are starting. if ur baby is bottle feeding try to wean him to cup.
All this extensive things are practical as i am having the same problem with my daughter who is 2 years for nov.29th

what is the reaction of your child everytime you try to give him solid food? does he choke or cough or just refuses to eat the cereal???...if your son chokes or coughs maybe he is having trouble swallowing big particles of food. try giving him small portions of his food or distract him while he's eating. this happened to my nephew and what my parents did was make him laugh while eating, because he's buy laughing he was not able to pay much attention to his food.
