If making tea in a mug, do you add milk before removing the teabag? Personally, I think that's a disgusting habit to have a bag floating around in milky water. I'm sure the correct method is to add milk afterwards. If I had a butler of course, I'd use a teapot & leaves every time. I don't, so I use a teabag!

This is how I make a cuppa......
Boil the kettle and stick a teabag in my favourite mug. Add boiling water and let the teabag rest for a few seconds, squeeze the bag out at least three times and throw away. Then add semi skimmed milk and enjoy with a couple of Hobnobs!

If you must add milk to tea, then add the milk after you have removed the tea bag.
Making good tea is an art form.
Forget the tea bag. You can buy a closed tea strainer. Put the leaves in this. Warm the teapot or mug and take this to the kettle. Place the tea in the receptacle and add th, still, boiling water. Allow to stand for at least 4 minutes. Remove the receptacle and shake the contents into your organic waste collector. Now you can add the milk, sugar, sweeteners or whatever.
If you use a tea pot, then you should also add the milk after. The tradition of adding the milk first dates back to the era when porcelain was very delicate. It could break if you poured boiling hot tea in, so people got into the habit of putting the milk in first.

Hi, I put the milk in afterwards as you can see how much you need once you have strained the teabag!! do you know you are supposed to let the teabag soak for 2-3 minutes in boiled water before taking out for that nice cuppa!?

If you are pouring from a teapot then by all means have your sugar, honey, lemon or milk already prepared in your cup {you can brew tea w/bags in a pot..I have a nifty one that's just big enough for 21\2 cups of tea}, but when brewing in a cup then no. Wait until your tea is strong enough then add your preferences.

Definitely after the brew! I work in the restaurant trade, and found out quickly enough (!) that when you put milk in with the tea-bag, the milk clogs the pores of the bag, not allowing the full flavour of the tea to brew through!

I agree with you, the milk after the tea is much more civilised.

The history of the milk in before the tea (apparently) goes back to the times when the well to do had China cups and the milk was put in first to stop the cups breaking when hot liquid was pored into them.

teabag in the cup and then the boiling water. Let it steep for a couple of minutes then remove the teabag and add the milk or cream and sugar or sweetener.

The usual ettiquet for preparing tea is to wait at least for 2-3 minutes after pouring hotwater so that it can brew.
Take out the teabag and add mik & sugar.

Hope you would enjoy the best tea made.

Why not use a teapot? Teabags do fit in the pot. Then you have a second cup and it won't matter in which order you put your milk in!
And for those who say you can't taste the difference, I can.
