college is smaller-sort of think of a community collge if you will . a university has a huge campus, cafeterias and meal plans as well as various dorms. some universities even have apartment style dorms for $450 a month-that is the price on my campus. a university has a huge diversity of people living both on and off campus while a college does not offer housing nor as any options when it comes to food, buying your books, etc-you are sort of limited. the polulation of a university is over 10,000 while at a college will have a couple thousand students attending! at a college the loads are easier but the teachers are not and you can miss class more than university wise! at a university you are given 3 absences that you can miss and after that teachers deduct points from your overall grade unless you give them a doctors's note or something as a back up!at a university everything is more complex and hard and you have much more homework than if you were attending a college, and less free time collge wise! plus the difference between the two is the price! the college will cost you cheaper vs. a 4 year university with books, tuition, room and board, as well as meal plan! my advice is that if you want to take it slowly and make good grades you should maybe go to a community college, but already know what univerity you will transfer to and your major! at the community college take basic classes like English, History, government, Sociology, Philosophy, maybe a couple of the hard subjects that will transer such as Calculus 1, 2 or 3 or organic chemistry for example! stay there for either one semester or one year-after one semeste it is hard to find room and a room mate especially if you transfer in the middle of the year! at a community college you will spend a couple hundred dollars on classes and couple hundred more on books but it is not as bad a spending $14,000 or more a year in a university! if i were you i would go and take classes for one year and in the spring be ready to apply to a good univeristy! the community college guarantees that your GPA wil be higher which gives you a better shot at getting in into what university you want! i have been where you are after i graduated from high school and chose a community college since it was closer to home and i could make good grades in the basic as well as hard classes! it paid off and now i am a transfer student and i had a great GPA because of the community collge!plus a university has more fields or domains of study vs. a college which has certain ones but not as many of them as a university!

ps: if you would like to attend some good US universities here are some that i know of!
1. Michigan State University-has a good Biology and computerscience program as well as it is renowned for its other areas of study and it is competitive to get in with a 3 or 3.5GPA!
2. If you like hot weather and lots of humidity you might like Texas! its many great universities include UT at Dallas, UT Austin, Texas Tech, Texas State University as well as MSU! all of these universities especially UT Austin and Texas State are popular in the Biology fields and being the best universities in TX!

Colleges tend to be smaller in population, be more streamlined toward a particular course of study. Universities tend to have a much larger population, have many different and distinct courses of study.
There are so many choices out there. Have some sort of idea as to what course of study you might want to pursue, then see what is out there. Things you might need to consider are the cost of tuition, housing costs, area of the US you might want to live. Ask those around you if they have any experiences or know of anyone who really liked, or for that matter, didn't like certain schools and areas of our country. If you like sunshine and warm, you probably don't want to consider Northern Michigan or North Dakota. If you don't like it to rain all the time, you might not want to consider the Pacific NW.
Make a list of all the important points you want to consider and then you will come to a good decision.

College and University usually means the same thing in the US.
However, college may also mean different things in different countries. College refers to university dorms/hostels or senior high schools in Australia.
