So tht ppl could tell the accurate time, also to bring abt a uniformity cos the results of the previous methods of telling time were not tht accurate & varied from place to place.

it was made to see time... early forms of clocks are, the sun, the sun dial and loads more... check out wikipedia... it really helps. also try google. good luck.
