I have a new friend and I noticed when sometimes he looks at me his eyes seem to switch from side to side at a really fast pace.

Nystagmus is an involuntary rhythmic shaking or wobbling of the eyes. The term nystagmus is derived from the Greek word, “nystagmos”, which was used to describe the wobbly head movements of a sleepy or inebriated individual.
There are over 45 types of nystagmus.

Yes, Its called nystagmus. It is usually from an eye condition that someone is born with or from brain damage.

Yeah, I had a teacher with that. Looks like they're speed reading? It's actually called wandering eye, or strabismus.

yes, i actually just saw this on a medical show and that is a sign of some forms of epileptic seziures. it was happening in a small infant on the show.
