I have never asked this question (that I can recall), but I was wondering if I could hear your answer to the age old question, "what if you're wrong and there really is a God?"

According to the bible, your omnipotent being already knows everything I'll ever do, say or think. According to scripture, my life has already been pre-chosen by your god, so I can no more choose to believe than you can choose to stop believing.

Or,

If I was purposely "made" by an intelligent being, then that being has power, and exists on a level I can't comprehend. I can not, and will not, subscribe to the belief that such a powerful thing would create me as I am, with all my independent thoughts and feelings, and then purposely not inspire me to spend my whole life "hoping" for something that the majority of my fellow humans feel, while at the same time making every cell in my body tell me it is illogical and ridiculous. A being capable of feats would surely be above playing such petty, human-like, mind games. And if it did/does engage in such nonsense, than it's clear that doesn't even possess the compassion it endowed its own creations with, and I want nothing to do with it anyway.

Simply put, I think on a higher level than you, so you'd probably be better off just going back into your blissful theistic sleep, and not even try to make sense of my answer.

If an atheist is wrong and there is a God, then there is a God. I am not following the logic of your question. It is like asking a Christian, "What if you are wrong and God is Muslim?" There are so may religions, this question could be asked over and over in different ways, without reaching a meaningful conclusion.

Hypothetically:

If it's the old testament god, he'll get pissed, cause a giant flood or two, and turn my wife to salt.

The new testament god, on the other hand, would give me a hug and say that its ok...cause he loves everyone, even his enemies.

If he's the modern god, then it would be rather easy to take his job and do it myself, seeing as how ambivilant he is towards his creation...
Your turn...what if you're wrong, and there really isn't a god?

What you're really asking is "Why not cover your bets and believe in God just in case?"

This is called Pascal's Wager and even theologians have discredited it as a chintsy attempt at garnering a theological insurance policy.

But to answer your question, we tend to be honest people, who are honest with ourselves. Unlike Christians, we can't believe something we know to be untrue.

That's called living a lie.

2 corinthians 4

For the god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus as Lord and ourselves as YOUR servants for Jesus' sake.

We are your servants, we are hear to help unscale your blind eyes. Not to be harsh or anything but If our God is real, you are screwed basically. If our God is not real then we would have lead a good and fulfilled life. So Either way, nothing good is to come of your deaths.

I'm not an athiest. I believe in what we refer to as God. I also don't dread or fear God. In fact, some of the most compassionate and understanding parts of myself are the things that leave me feeling close to God. I highly doubt God would even care if an athiest didn't believe in it. What if God and the athiest are the same energy? Then the athiest's energy (soul) at his/her time of death would merge with God's energy. I don't think God would expect us to believe in something we can barely even fathom. If I were God, I'd welcome the atheist home with open arms, and a warm understanding.

Here's the issue:
1. If anyone believes because God will punish disbelief, then this is a horrible god. I wouldn't want to spend eternity with such a sick and twisted tyrant.
2. If god is all-loving, then the atheist is actually closer to god because he's completely rejected the negative, ego-based images of god that 99.99% of theists worship.

Research "Pascal's wager".

Also, look at your belief in god using the SAME LOGIC: What if there really is a god but he is the god of a different religion than the one you follow?

I'd just have to wonder why God expected obedience from beings that were given rational thought and no convincing proof of God's existence.
