Good question. You can start to eat more protein in your diet, such as steaks and peanuts. Peanuts are very healthy, contain a LOT of protein, but have a lot of calories. Other nuts (almonds, walnuts, cashews) are the same, too. But if you have to watch your sodium, make sure you buy unsalted nuts, because salted peanuts have a lot of sodium! If you eat more nuts and seeds, you'll gain weight, I promise.

Eating more healthy starches will help you gain weight, also. Foods such as pastas, rice, certain cereals, and bread will make you gain weight.

Also, eat more dairy. As you grow older, you need more calcium. Try eating more milk, cheese, sour cream, and other products that contain milk.

Over all, continie to eat fruits and vegetables. It's a lot to do, I know.

Good luck!

I wouldn't worry about it. In the old money, before everything went metric, that would be 10 stone ten pound, or nearly 11 stone. My sixft son is slightly under 11stone at 44, an ex ski champion and now hang-glider, mountain climber, as sinewy as a python and as hard as nails - and alarmingly healthy! Depending on your build and bone-frame I reckon that could be reasonable at 50yo. I'm 75, losing some muscle due to inactivity and health, but adding some fat where it's not wanted, and I weigh 11.5 stone at 5ft 8 inch with a solid frame. Unless your Dr's concerned, I'd be glad, if I were you. Some muscle exercises would build better weight than merely food (of which alcohol's the most fattening but not necessarily good for you - a glass of wine a day, or a glass of stout will fatten quickly!) So rejoice, and enjoy! Most people are far too fat - who wants to cart around unecessary weight, like an unwanted suitcase?

your medication is your primary control of your weight refer to a thyroid specialist who also is into weight mangement this made all the difference in my life not every Dr. knows about thyroid or really cares. even an endocrinologists I went to had it all screwed up!
peace out !

I hate you!!! I would kill to have this problem. Talk to your doctor you want to put on muscle not fat. I'm sure their are diets out there to help people put on weight. You may have to make an appointment at the hospital to talk to a nutritionist. Good luck!

Just add milk, if you can. my friend gained weight after drinking lots of milk every day, and my mom lost weight after removing milk from her diet. It`s healthy, and your teeth will look fantastic.
