First would be the need to find the True Religion that doesn't LIE to them like the secular religions do. They need to learn that the Bible gives them a great HOPE! And secular religion gives them all these thoughts that the Bible DOESN"T support like-- EVERYONE who repents go to heaven. NOT
ALL bad people go to hell. NOT
Once forgiven, always forgiven NOT
Being gay or lesbian is OK! NOT
Priests that rape or molest are ok by God . NOT!
The soul is immortal NOT
Hell is a fiery place of torment. NOT
They need to know the truth about god and his son and to know that God has a plan for the Earth and for them and their actions will determine how he deals with them, but that YES- they can have hope that this nasty, filthy, sinful world is NOT all that there is in their future. What a bleak future that must be to someone 12 years old... how sad!
The other thing our kids need today is a feeling of self-worth. Our society does everything it can to strip away any sense of this that it can in so many different ways. Kids being passed on to higher grades in school so that "No kid is left behind" . What does this do for a kid who can't read except make him struggle more and more until all sense of self assurance is just gone because he simply can't keep up. And yet, he still graduates to a menial job, with a menial life because he can't get the good job with the good money to have the good life ( as its called ). SO , we end up with a frustrated person at 65 who can't retire because there is no retirement account and who works til the day he dies.
Yeah, a sense of self worth would be a good thing. Even if it means holding a kid back OR getting them the extra help they need. It doesn't mean that they can't be shown that they are still worth while and a valueable person. Self worth can be built in so many ways. SImple praise by teachers and parents goes a LONG way in helping kids feel better about themselves. Accomplishing projects that are started is another way. Encouraging kids to finish things that they start, how hard is this people? I mean, even finishing a 1000 piece puzzle is a big deal!! ( I never have! But my eyes are bad, its just a thing I never tried to do , too much of a head ache! LOL )
Riding a bike, skateboading, ballet lessons, whatever a kid takes on, encouraging them when they succeed is the best growth pill for self worth. Make them feel important in the lives of people who know and love them.
Give them some responsibilities that they need to maintain - chores of some sort- and showing your appreciation for a job well done once in a while goes a long way, too.
Those are two of my things I think our kids today need...

I think they need to learn what is more impotant they need to understand the real world a little bit more that it is not just about who is popular and who is not and they need to learn how to accept people who are diffrerent then them. They need to learn how to make responsible disions and they do need boundries. I do think church should be fun for them though bc my church has nothing for the youth and it stinks bc so many people are not going bc of that that is why i quite going and found a different church but in the same conference though. So you need to make church fun but educational on God and teach them about him still but just make it fun. Ask your class what is the most important to them too. Everyone has diferent veiws i know that is why you wrote it here but you also need to ask your class this too.
GOOD LUCK

A mother and father who take responsibility for what they have produced, doing everything in their power to insure that their children are properly prepared, physically, emotionally and intellectually to function in society without having to rely on beliefs in ghosts, goblins or other mythical beings. This includes the promotion of a free and questioning mind.
The second is actually what they don't need, to have their desire for adventure stifled and their opportunities to fulfill that desire overly restricted.

I think it is love and someone to truly care for them. When you're a teenager sometimes its hard to distinguish between reality and fake. Sometimes there is a lot of confusion on who is truly a friend and how to be yourself and feel confident.

The ability to think for themselves when making choices. And, learning to live with the consequences of those choices.
Parents who are there for them and actively interested in what they are doing.
