I tried to turn on my TV tonight. (An older 32" Hitachi.) It would make the turn-on noise but no picture would show up. I just left it alone like that and the picture switched on 20 minutes later. But in 5 minutes it shut off again. Another 30 minutes later it switched on again. This happened once last year, too, but then it went bk to normal & never happened again.

It may well be the large capacitors used to filter the power supply to the rest of the circuit which fires up your screen.I'm certainly no expert"just a hobbyist",but I had an old T.V. which refused to start, and when it did kept cutting out every hour or so.I left it on for a few days and it worked perfectly so decided not to turn it off at all. When I went to sleep I simply turned the volume/brightness/contrast down all the way and it worked fine for another 3 yrs.Not a very ecological thing to do but it saved me having to buy another one!.

This happened to my old panasonic tv before (its now among the city dump)

Get a technician to see what is the problem, maybe its a blown fuse, or something wrong with the tubes.

After my old tv was repaired by the technician, it went dead again.
So, i suggest you get a new TV, coz you gotta repair it often, as repairing your tv won't permanently let it be okay, and imagine if you repair it for umpteem times, the money that you spent on those hefty repairs can afford you a good new tv.

Oh Man!

You do need to get a New Television... just incase you were looking for confirmation.

My mom's boyfriend's STEP-FATHER use to be a Television Repair Man,.. he owned his own Business... I think he was forced to Retire years ago,.. he Explains " It's Less expensive to just buy a new TV then for us to Order New Parts and have them shipped over seas for a TV,.. and that's before Labor,.. that's just cost we get stuck with if you don't pay us." something like that.

I'm sorry--I don't know you, don't know your lifestyle or what you have to invest in anything---but I'd say go to Wal-Mart and get a new TV---or call the cable company--or the satellite company--if all else fails--put on the radio and make love!!
