There's a clinic here in town that pays like $35 every time you donate plasma. I went by there though and was really grossed out because there were lots of dirty skanky crackhead looking people there and the stadd wasn't exactly groomed looking either. Is it safe and are there any side effects? I'm needing a little extra money for the holidays and figured if I could do that two or three times a week I'd save up plenty.

Hey kid

I'd recommend not doing the plasma thing. That'd just be bad for business in terms of your health. They blow people's veins all the time there. The people they have working there are usually just phlebotomist....which basically means they are qualified to take blood. I know you don't need any college to do that and I'm not certain you even have to have a high school diploma. You just go take a course and get certified.

A lot of those places are also doing smallpox testing now which means if you want they will give you the smallpox vaccine and then test you to see if you have the virus...if you don't develop the virus then they pay you extra for your plasma...but then of course you run the risk of being sterilized from the shot. And you don't get $35 a pop....you may get that once but read the website of those places and you'll see fees range anywhere from 15 to 25 for alternating visits which are limited to twice a week.

if you are active then taking plasma from your body can debilitate you and make you groggy and week as it is the fuel your body needs to fight off cold and other sicknesses.

I'd recommend picking up an early morning paper route or temp job at the UPS or something...it pays better and you'll get in shape while getting to keep your arms away from those needles and stay away from crackheads.

if you just want to help folks then call the red cross and donate your blood

I've heard this about plasma centers before. I would suggest checking with you doctor, or contacting the city/county health depts. for information before going ahead with anything.

they hook you up and pump out your blood-into a machine that takes out the plasma and puts the other parts of your blood back in...the places are nasty but the needles are new-just make sure your lab person wears gloves, my sister worked at one and said that if your plasma was bright yellow you had aids-it should come out bland yellow
