Well...arrested development seems to derive from fetal alcohol syndrome and start or shows up around 5 or 6. So maybe I'm not getting the term?
In your situation...acting emotionally as an 18 yr old....think back to what significant things happened around that age in your life.
We usually stop developing emotionally due to a severe or traumatic event or experience in child hood we cannot accept. So we stay in the mind set of when we felt safe etc etc.
Think about that part of it. Also..ask your Doctor to elaborate a bit more..so you actually understand what he is saying. Sometimes when we are trying to get better we have to go through some pain to get through the other side. I mean...I'm no shrink...but Ive been around the block in this area quite a few times. keep searching and learning and working on it....Good luck!

Arrested development is typically seen in personality disorders. These can have mood swings much like bipolar.

How about immature? We ALL act like that once in awhile. It's nothing to be ashamed of. -And by the time we're 90- nobody notices anyway! :)

I wouldn't think acting young at heart would be a problem.
