To have roads, schools, medical research, ... all of these things drives our economy which makes our dollars worth more. People don't realize taxes are good. It really doesn't matter anyways, because how much you make doesn't matter. What matters is how much you make relative to everyone else. And everyone is taxed. We're always in competition with each other. Example: I can tell you that I would pay you a million dollars a year, and you would get excited. But what if you found out afterward that everyone else in the world now makes 2 million dollars a year. You probably wouldn't be happy then.

I'm amused by all these answers indicating that paying taxes is some sort of onerous punishment for being a citizen.

Enjoy riding on roads? Drinking clean water? Having a police department? Do you support our troops? Who the hell do you think pays for that?

Well somebody has to pay for the fraud and corruption in government. Let's make that single parent of 2 kids doing waitress work in a city that has childcare that costs $150 a week per child carry the burden. It is a shame and a sham!!

To have roads to drive on, public assistance to those in need, social services, research programs, education scholarships, pay leaders to do their jobs so we can complain about them. Etc., etc.
Sure, it's not all going where we would like, but I would hate to live
in a country with no money to carry out our needs and services. It's just how it is.
