Because people here are quick to condemn and slow listen. They think that because they know that theyre religion or belief is right, that gives them the right to condemn people. thats not the case at all. real followers of Jesus should imitate Christ, but so few people on this forum are actually doing what God has called Christians to do, and that is to love one another even if they are your enemy or lost without hope. It frustrates me to see "Christians" in this forum condemning people when Jesus Clear states Do not judge or you will be judged.
I am an Avid follower of Christ, I struggle and stumble everyday. but how great is the God who can take a wreched soul like mine, one that doesnt measure up, and through his blood make me measure and make me pure. I personally believe that Mormons are being mislead. God and Christianity are not about being good. its about having faith and trusting the lord and in doing so, your fruits will bear good works, not the other way around.

I had Mormons that visited my house once. They didn't present themselves as mormons but they used a different name that I didn't recognize cause had they used it I would have dismissed anything they said. Nonetheless they came in, prayed and starting talking about the Bible (I read the whole Bible so I knew they were talking the truth). After that they started talking about "prophet john smith". I got upset, upset that they came into my home and started adding things to the Bible that are not there, upset that they thought we were uneducated about the Bible so they can say whatever it is that they want to us. I let them finish ofcourse and then they asked if we are going to pray to God so He can let us know that John Smith is God's prophet. I told them I am not going to ask God of anything as silly as that because if it is not in the Bible, it's not accepted and it is a lie. Of course by what I said I could tell they were getting upset. I asked them all the questions I could.
Anyway after the whole disagreement thing and them asking that I go and pray to God for some light they said they'd be back after two days to "preach" to us again. I was prepared to meet them again and guess what? They never showed up and it has been almost a month since their last visit.
Oh and to add to that, the time that they came it was not their first time to step foot into my house, the first time they came I was not at home but because the rest of my family is not so well familiar with the Bible they came for the second time because they thought we are all gullible, only to find me in the house.
Word of advice to everyone, familiarize yourself with the Bible and then not everyone will come and tell you lies about the Bible.
So to answer your question they get such passionate responses from Christians because most of them are not familiar with the Bible. Because if you listen to the mormons talking just in the beginning you'd think they are for real and there is no harm. For instance if you haven't read the Bible they can tell you about John Smith and you'd think it's true.

The Apostle Paul said, "If any come preaching another gospel to you other than what we have preached....let them be accursed!".....that is pretty strong language. Not every faith that throws Jesus on there shingle above the door is actually "Christian". Many so called "Christian" religions follow "doctrines of devils"....some denying the deity of Christ, the virgin birth, the validity of the Holy Word of God itself.....others pervert the Gospel by incorporating pagan rights, idols, and rituals, etc.
Bible believing Christians don't hate anyone...Jesus taught to love not only our neighbours and not only those that love us, but to love our enemies as well....but that does not mean that we should condone heresies, blasphemy, or false doctrines.
I personally admire the Mormons for there faith and devotion, and believe Christians should take a few lessons from them, but I do not accept them as brothers and sisters in Christ and believe their teachings to be contrary to the Word of God. They are a religion....which means they are trying to attain righteousness through their own works....biblical Christianity...no matter what label teaches that man can never make himself good enough for God.....It is by GRACE that you are saved, through faith, not of works, lest any should boast.....it is God's mercy and free gift, bought and paid for by the blood of Christ....

Mormons are very close to Islam and Muslims. As a matter of fact some of their teachings seem to have come direclty from Quran. There is however one major difference. Muslims beleive in One and Only God while Mormons beleive in trinity. Muslims beleive hat the God is not a human being and can't be visualized in physical sense. He has no wife and no son. He is beyond all tese. They beleive that the original sin was forgiven by the Most Merciful God and every child born is perfectly innocent. They beleive that both Adam and Eve committed the sin of eating from a tree and it was nto the case that eve made Adam to eat. Muslims also beleive in all the Prohets and love them. Tehy beleive that the God saved Jesus from hanging on the cross and the person who ws hanged ws not Jesus and mimiked jesus so peole got confused.
There used to be unitarian Christians which are abolished by Trinitarian through bloodshed. Some Unitarian Christisnas hovere covnerted to Islam when they encoutnered Quran. They saw the teachings identical and they were convinced the promsied Masiah in bible was no other than Muhmmad (Means prisieworthy)

I don't know any Christians who hate Mormons and I know a lot of Christians. Why Christians are opposed to Mormonism is because it was started by a false prophet and if Mormons are honest they will tell you that they want you to put down the Bible and pick up the books written by their false prophets.
Joseph Smith claims that he was under attack by the Devil but God came to his rescue and showed him where to find seven golden tablets in the forest that had a "new revelation". But the Bible clearly explains what really happened to and through him.
2 Corinthians 11:13 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15 So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.
Mormons teach that God was once a man and that Jesus and Satan were "spirit brothers". It also teaches that the devout followers of their religion will one day have their own planets to rule over and they will be like God. Once again the Bible shows where this teaching comes from.
Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God actually say, 'You shall not eat of any tree in the garden'?" 2 And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, 3 but God said, 'You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.'" 4 But the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."
It's like the Devil saying that "Does the Bible really teach that there is only one eternal God? Well, that book has been corrupted but if you do what I tell you then you will be just like God."

mormons still get a bad rap because of their early history as pirates along the east coast. the mormon pirates were ruthless in those days and would waylay any ship they could find, steal the cargo, make the men walk the plank and take the women as 2nd and 3'rd and sometimes even 4th wives.
the continental congress put a stop to that and authorized several warships to capture and rid the world of the evil mormon pirates. after a long chase the mormon pirates were finally defeated and captured.
they were then exiled to utah---that being as far away from the sea as possible back then. they were left alone out there to marry many wives and do whatever it is they do---except for pirating.

I'm sure most evangelical Christians don't mean to come off sounding hateful towards Mormons themselves. I know numerous Mormons who are great people and I love very much. (1/2 of my family!)
However, as a Christian (who spent 18 years in the LDS church), I am passionately against the Mormon church and it's teachings. Mainly, I hate that the Mormon church disguises themselves as a Christian church, when, in fact, they are not Christian. These poor people live their lives thinking that they know Christ, when their understanding of Christ is twisted to fit in with church doctrines.
Mainstream Christians believe that believers in Jesus Christ will be saved through His grace and not by anything we can do. (Although, as it states in Romans 3: 20-31, our faith does not justify all our actions, instead it convicts us to follow the Bible.)
Mormons believe that Jesus Christ "opened" a door for us, but that we have to walk through it. Therefore, Christ's grace doesn't fully cover us. Instead, Mormons believe we are saved by our works.
This is a HUGE difference in theology. Their beliefs about Jesus are so off base from the truth, that they shouldn't identify themselves with the broad term as "Christian". It's like the LDS church is a tomato and Christians are an apple. They both call themselves fruit, but they really belong in different categories.
So, in conclusion, we're passionately against the LDS church calling itself "Christian", because they're not Christian. Christians want to show Mormons this huge theological difference, but they may not always approach these differences with the love and compassion that they should.

Don't take it personally. Religion is the parent of bigotry and ignorance. If you really want to see them come unhinged, tell them you're a gay Mormon. It's hilarious to watch their reaction. They'll look at you as though you just said you were the Anti-Christ.

You should study up on the Mormon religion because while we do share the belief in Jesus Christ, there are HUGE differences, including the fact that they study the Book of Mormon more than the bible itself. Maybe this will help you....

I'm an evangelical Christian, so maybe I can help you out.
First, if a Christian hates anyone, that person is wrong to do so, but there are many ideologies, doctrines, behaviors, and such that we do hate. For instance, something we often say is "Hate the sin; love the sinner." So whereas we may hate homosexuality, we must have compassion and Christ-like love for the homosexual. The same goes for liars, alcoholics, adulterers, etc. We hate what they do, but we love the people who do them.
At least, that's what we're supposed to do, but some of us personalize things and lash out at people instead of the idea. Some of us consider "false doctrines" as direct assaults on Christianity, and we tend to react passionately about that, but it is never right to condemn, judge, and attack or anyone.
You have to remember that we (Christians) don't claim to be perfect. We believe that God has forgiven our sins by our acceptance of Christ's sacrifice, but we are, by no means, sinless after our salvation. We are to seek perfection, but we do not believe we will achieve it this side of heaven.
And that brings me to the Mormons. Though Mormons are considered a Christian religion in most people's eyes, evangelicals tend to disagree. You see, the Mormon idea of salvation is very different from ours. Mormons believe that Christ was an example for us to follow and our salvation comes in repenting from our evil works (ie. not doing them anymore)
We believe that Christ was an example to follow and we are to repent from our evil works (sins), but we believe that salvation itself relies on our acceptance of his sacrifice for us--his death substituted for our death, our sin put on his shoulders, his blood covering the stain of our sins.
While the Mormon idea of salvation is dependent on our own ability to achieve salvation through good works, Evangelicals believe that it is impossible to save ourselves by any means. God is the only one who can save, and he sent Christ as the way, as a free gift.
So we evangelicals tend to get a little upset seeing something we see as misleading and quite unchristian pitched as Christian. We see so many people trying to work their way into heaven, but the truth is that there's nothing we can do. We have to let God do it for us.
Sure Mormons are great people--really nice and loving-- but all the goodness we try to do doesn't outweigh the bad. We have to let God erase the bad.
We (Evangelicals) just want people to see that, and we don't want people to be mislead about the simplicity of salvation, be it through Mormon ideology or anything else.
