My poodle had a litter in July and she is due to go into heat again, according to her previous owner. I dont know much about my poodle, Mocha, because I have only had her 3 weeks. I noticed that she has been breathing heavily for the last 2 days. what could that mean? My mother in law is a vetinary(sp?) asst but I live in san diego and she is in Louisiana. I told her about the heavy breathing and she said that Mocha may have ate something that is irritating her throat and trying to clear it out but she isnt hacking she is breathing. I want to take her to the vet but I dont REALLY want to spend the money if its nothing. If i dont figure it out I will take her next week

sometimes panting or heavy breathing can be a sign of some measure of pain. If it continues into the morning, I would have her looked at. As an unspayed female, she may also be getting pyrometria (a uterine infection).

There could be many different reasons for your dog's difficult breathing and the ony way to find out for sure is to take the dog to a vet. Did the previous owner give you the medical records for the dog or their phone number? This could be very important to have when you take the dog to the vet. Shot records, previous illnesses, etc. are something people are ethically supposed to give to buyers of their animals. Unfortunately, many people just don't care and that's why we have animal shelters and Humane Societies, and veterinarians like your relative make a very healthy living. Good luck with your new addition to the family. I love animals , and it always breaks my heart to hear when they suffer. I hope it all works out and that your dog isn't seriously ill.

Is it hot in your house? she may be hot that is why she is breathing so heavy,,, dogs pant when they are hot, if it is not hot in your house then you need to take her to the vet cause she might have an upper respitory infection or another serious infection in her lungs,,, I would at least call a vet and tell them her symptoms and see what they say
