“God” is not referred to in the Constitution or the Bill of Rights - neither are church, religion, worship - nor is *Christianity*.

US money did not reference God until the Civil War.

The Pledge of Allegiance did not include “under God” until the Cold War.

The US was not founded on Christianity. It was founded on the principles of checks and balances btwn the executive, legislative, and judicial branches; representative democracy; freedom of religion; and, separation of church and state. The structure is based on a mix of ancient Roman and Greek governance – not religion.

Why do so many Christians insist that the founding of the US was based on Christianity?

Okay, simple question... when did "God" and Christianity become synonyms. I think a number of other religions might take issue with that.

Let's take a closer, more accurate look out our Founders and their Documents. (And, NO! I won't consider those "quotes" that have been edited by Falwell and Robertson that christians always find on their websites...SORRY!)

The Founders NEVER agreed that Christianity was the singular religion in America or that they used Christian inspiration in the Founding. What is the Smithsonian to some people...an empty building? Some people have the impression that the Framers were bashful, or reluctant to put their most cherished values into the writings that Founded this country Do the brainwashed people see, somewhere, in the primary Founding documents of this Country, something that looked like "bible"??? The Four Primary documents laying the Foundation of this country: 1) The Bill of Rights, 2) The Declaration of Independence, 3) The Articles of Confederation and 4) the US Constitution -- that nowhere, NOWHERE in ANY OF THEM, will you find any of these words: christ, bible, jesus, christianity. NOWHERE.

This value that people seem to think they AGREED UPON never shows up ANYWHERE in the primary, most influential documents that Founded this country. And, that chaps their @$$, doesn't it -- in fact, it chaps their @$$ so bloody that they insist they are there, even though they are not... So they lie, and say they are there in spirit because one of the Framers wrote some garbage about Jesus on a cocktail napkin or in a letter to his Aunt Phyllis. LOL... Jefferson thought the Bible was so full of garbage, that he re-wrote his own version (published, and called the Jefferson Bible) to distill out the basic "Golden Rule" teachings and to eliminate the superstitious deity-BS. Yet, adding to or subtracting from the Bible was out-and-out blasphemy to any true believer at that time!! But morons, with their bloody chapped @$$es, will absolutely demand that Framers like Jefferson believed jesus was the son of god, when he clearly did not. Jefferson loved the moral teachings and thought the spiritual teachings were bunk and corrupted, claiming many times that Paul (the largest alleged contributor to the NT) was the biggest fraud and “first corruptor to the doctrines of Jesus”. In the Jefferson Bible, miracles and references to the Trinity and the divinity of Jesus are notably absent. The Bible begins with an account of Jesus's birth without references to angels, genealogy, or prophecy. The work ends with the words: "Now, in the place where he was crucified, there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid. There laid they Jesus. And rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed." There is no mention of the resurrection. --– hardly the position of a true Christian. Anyway…

In fact, those Founding documents prove that he (and the others) did not feel as many mindless people will claim. The Framers AGREED to use terminologies consistent with Deists, which is what many of the Founding Fathers were. They didn't use biblical terminologies. They used phrases and references like this one, found in the Declaration of Independence: “When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them…”

Not the biblical “jesus”…but the Deist reference to “Nature’s God and the Laws of Nature”.

If you’d even like further proof of the non-Christian intent and non-Christian foundation of this government, look to a very well-known treaty, the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between the United States of America and the Bey and Subjects of Tripoli of Barbary, unanimously ratified by the Congress of the United States, June 10, 1797. In that treaty is this language in Article 11: As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion, as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion or tranquility of Musselmen, and as the said States never have entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mehomitan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

Wow! Christians can put their spin on that all they like. In fact, they can spin it like they spin phrases in the Bible. Give it the usual “it says that, but it doesn’t really mean that…in fact, it means the exact opposite, that the US was founded on Christianity…blah blah blah. Someone just forgot to tell our ENTIRE US CONGRESS at that time…” LOL!! (You’ll note that none of our official treaties or Congressional documents states the reverse…)

Anyway… let the mindless attempt to rewrite (or ignore) history all they like. Mindless people cannot change the well known official writings and founding documents, recorded for all time, no matter how much their @$$ is chapped beyond bloody. No amount of mumbling into their hands (prayer or whatnot) to their cult God will change it, either. It is what it is.

Some of the Founding Fathers has some nasty things to say about organized Christian religions and if you report me in violation I will quote those people, like Paine and Jefferson and Franklin.

There was an ATTEMPT to Add Jesus and it was defeated, thus they could not get 9 or 10 states out of the 13 to go along with adding Jesus to the constitution.

They didn't think they could get the bill of rights through, which is why I was submitted seprately and two of the original12 rights never got approved!

As Thomas Jefferson wrote in his Autobiography, in reference to the Virginia Act for Religious Freedom:

"Where the preamble declares, that coercion is a departure from the plan of the holy author of our religion, an amendment was proposed by inserting "Jesus Christ," so that it would read "A departure from the plan of Jesus Christ, the holy author of our religion;" the insertion was rejected by the great majority, in proof that they meant to comprehend, within the mantle of its protection, the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mohammedan, the Hindoo and Infidel of every denomination."

Thomas Jefferson interpreted the 1st Amendment in his famous letter to the Danbury Baptist Association in January 1, 1802:

"I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between church and State."

Thomas Paine, freethinker and author of several books, influenced more early Americans than any other writer. Although he held Deist beliefs, he wrote in his famous The Age of Reason:

"I do not believe in the creed professed by the Jewish church, by the Roman church, by the Greek church, by the Protestant church, nor by any church that I know of. My own mind is my church. "

"Of all the systems of religion that ever were invented, there is no more derogatory to the Almighty, more unedifiying to man, more repugnant to reason, and more contradictory to itself than this thing called Christianity. "

These, then, are the people that Founded the US and championed the Constitution!

America was founded on transatlantic slavery and greed for Aztec gold by conquistadors. America was founded upon principles of colonialism and world domination. The pilgrims were even criminals banished from Europe. The founding fathers had slaves in their backyards and were calling America the land of the free. Protestants allowed slavery to reign for over three hundred years. Slaves were forced to build this country. All this free labor funded the industrial age in the north (remember slavery was rampant in the north until the industrial age). Once Lincoln freed the slaves, America was integrated much like today during the reconstruction period and the blacks that became governors rallied for better education in the south which benefited both blacks and whites but alot of whites felt like blacks were taking over so the klu klux klan came into existence out of fear of blacks wiping out the white race through interacial relationships and began the whole separate and unequal treatment known as Jim Crow that lasted for a hundred years until the civil rights movement. During slavery and Jim Crow blacks faced all kinds of horrors from lynchings (tree hangings) to being burnt alive to even castration while good christian folk sat around watching while picnicking after church.

nice points to consider and why do we celebrate holidays steeped with paganism and name weapons and days of the week after roman and greek mythological gods their is so much about this country that is not christian i also wonder why people think that this country was founded by christianity then i found the answer the so called christians that founded this country and started to slaughter indians shortly afterward were a watered down version of true christianity they are an off shoot of catholisism founded by constantine in the third century from then on paganism infiltrated and weakened christianity this is why christians kill other christians in wars they colonised the indigeous people they are molesting kids stealing our money and full of hippocrisy they teach a contradicting version of the bible they constantly look like fools up against science teaching the earth was created in 7 literal days they have not gods holy spirit in them and this is evident through the actions of chritianity for 2000 years no this country was not founded by true christians nor is it ruled by today if it were paganism would be explained to people that it does not lead to the christin god holidays would not be full of paganism love of neighbor would be the rule unity and peace would also be incouraged pornography would not be shipped around the globe nor cigarettes the govt would actually care about the poor healthcare would be available to all no more starving for sharing is the christian way anyway i could go on and on anyone who thinks god has anything to do with this country and is blessing it should thourohly read the holy bible have fun

This is a very good question. From my historcial knowledge all founders of the USA were actually christian. But I do not believe that the country was specifically declared a christian country. Because unlike other countries of the world there is a separation of church and state. I do believe however that it was founded with the ideal that we are a nation under one God. So I think the accurate thing to say would be that the USA was founded on monotheistic faiths as a fundamental and the belief that people are free to pursue their own religious endeavors whatever it may be. So therefore, christianism, judaism, and islamicism are mainstream pillars on our nations foundation.

George Washington, Benjamin Franklin (Later in his life), Thomas Jefferson, John Hancock, and yaddiaddaaa were all christians who wrote every documents for the benefit of the nation because they learned in the past that religion and government do not work together (the middle east has not found that out yet). And the Novus Ordo Seclorum on the dollar that proves that America was builded on christianity means New world of the ages I think and not New world Order. new world ages standing for the soon to be the one government in the future which is a theo-democracy under God for a thousand years and for every when this earth turns into a freaking heave. I mean look everywhere on the famous buildings of washington D.C. it has all the sacred laws of virtue that God provided to us. The forefathers of America build this nation under the sacred laws of virtue or the Commandments. Thomas Paine belived in a Supreme Being but no church, ya see man.

1st separation of church and state is not part of the constitution.

Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.

These words guarantee Satanists and Secularists — which are both recognized religions, as is Atheism — as well as Christians, the right to practice their religion.

Not one word about separation.


This country was founded by men who believed in a philosophy that determined there existed good as well as evil. They believed the sun did not rise on their whim, rather that they were subservient to a higher calling. They believed there was something more important than self.

"Judeo-Christian" principles are basically just the belief in good & evil, subservience to some "higher calling," belief in something "more important than self," and the "humility" that ensues from said beliefs. That's it? There's nothing especially "Judeo-Christian" there because similar principles can be identified in cultures and religions throughout human history. It cannot be denied that our country was founded using Judeo-Christian principles.

I am not a Christian, tho I do believe in G-d and I would like to put my 2cents in.

The USA was not based on Christianity, as so many of our founding forefathers were not Christians, but, Deists. They did believe in G-d, but not Christianity. They did not plan on a Christian country----but a country free for all religions.The three most famous were George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Ben Franklin.

Christians are so wrong when then say our country is based upon Christianity and is a Christian country.

freedom of religion is the main reason our forefathers left england in the first place, hence the reason the were called protestants, because they were protesting the way england forced them into a specific religion. protestantism (im just guessing on the -ism there) is a branch of christianity, and many of the ideals found in christianity are found in our government today. So basically the reason christians say that the US was founded on the basis of christianity was because the forefathers of america were christian. the forefathers separated church and state because they didn't want a president that declared themself divinely selected by god, cause they had a problem with that back in england. so get your head out of your a s s and accept that our country was founded on christian beliefs.
