Yes, if a woman approaches first, she should open the door and hold it until the man, woman, or child following her has reached the entrance. Chivalry is not dead, it just wears lipstick.

Yes I agree with you. I don't mind. Sometimes I open the door for guys all the time. What's the point? As long as you're helping someone. I also hate it when someone is carrying something heavy across the room and no one is there to open it for the other person. That is just messed up. Maybe they don't realize it, but then the door opens and close and opens and close because the other person cannot get through. LoL. It's just messed up. I don't know about those people who aren't respectable and have great manners. It pisses me off when someone close the door in my face or doesn't say thank you if I happen to open the door. One time, I opened the door for this girl, and she just walked out while texting and kept going, I should've slammed it in her face. Am I being a hypocrite here? lol. Oo wells. Damn people. =) Great question.

Sometimes it just feels appropriate to open the door for someone else - man or woman. Given the fact that everyone doesn't follow the "traditional" etiquette that I prefer, I find I must negotiate these transactions on a case by case basis. The overall goal is to be polite to everyone.
I sometimes sense traditional gentlemen don't like the woman to open the door. Of course if someone is carrying something, I would open the door. It doesn't seem as complicated in real life as it is trying to write it out.

I open the door for a guy if there is some reason he can't do it -- like he's got his arms full of packages, pushing a stroller, walking with a cane, or something of that sort. Most men don't like it if women open doors just as a courtesy, so I just do it when it seems called for. Even then, they are often surprised!

Yes. Why not. Irrespective of men or women whoever call you at your doors you should open. Of course you have to ensure your safety and you can see in advance through a door eye hole or a small opening. By this you can ensure your safety and need not open to persons who are new or not giving proper answer.

You mean I never needed to?
I have done it - and never thought of this question you are asking!
Does that mean women don't hold the door for men? How preposterous, especially when we want to be equal in every sense! Ans not to mention, it would show lack of manners to bang it on someone's face.......

I actually held the door for two very attractive construction workers and they were a little upset by it. (I wonder how they would have felt if they knew I didn't do it to be polite, I just wanted them to pass really close in front of me so that I could get the full experience>)

I do. I live in a high rise. If I get there first. I hold the door for whoever is coming, be it male or female. It's just the humane thing to do.

I open doors for men on a regular basis. They're usually surprised or say 'no, you go first'. And I have the decency to say thanks if they get to it first. Can you believe there are actually women who will slap men for opening doors for them? Rotten wenches!
