I keep finding recommendations to drape tulle and christmas lights from the center of a shabby reception hall out to the edges of the room in order to make it look more elegant. The problem is that I have no idea how to do this! What techniques do people usually use? Is there a best method for not damaging the ceiling? Help is VERY greatly appreciated !

i say thumb tacks!!! run the Christmas lights over the thumb tacks and make like a tube with the tulle around the lights or you could use clear tape not the office kind but the real strong kind to hold up the lights and then use the clear thumbtacks to hold the tulle hope this works out for you or you could always use a staple gun just be careful not to staple through the lights just around them so try to find one with a wide staple you can get them at any hardware store

In the first place, some halls do not allow this type of decoration. Secondly, it should be done by a professional with experience in the field. Working with tulle and lights can be tricky and getting the right effect is often difficult. Also, lights must be placed so as not to cause a fire hazard with the tulle. Like I said, leave this to a professional.

Ask the hall management if a staple gun would be acceptable to affix the lights, if not there are tapes which are probably strong enough and would not mar the ceiling finish ... check at the local home depot or hardware store.

Most boys would not like tulle and paper lanterns in their bedrooms, but if you like them, go for it. I don't remember my sons ever using bedspreads. I'm just happy to see a straightened blanket, and a pillow that isn't on the floor.
