Of course its appropriate!
Manners are never inappropriate and if a women were offended that a man had the courtesy to open a door for her then she would be foolish.
It is a custom based on gender, but it doesnt harm anyone and i dont believe it contributes to the issues women face today like different pay for the same job as a man etc etc. 'Ladies first' is a throwback to the old days and a pleasant one. Keep it up guys! it certainly is something i make note of on dates as well as basic please and thankyou. There is nothing more unattractive than a guy with zero manners.

Yes, I don't know why. If women are equals I don't know why they should be first, and my conclusion is that they aren't. Women should be first because they are superior, it even says in the bible that the Woman, not the man, was the most special, and beautiful of alll Gods creatures. Not only should men open doors, but pull chairs out, take luggage, and heck, pretty much be their personal slave. And then maybe the Woman will reward you (even though they don't have to).

YES with a capital Y...! Of course it is very appropriate. It is a wonderful gesture of kindness. It just gets to me when people compare womens liberation with men not having to be courteous anymore with women. It has nothing to do with it. Women liberation targeted working and voting conditions. So, guys, just forget about getting away without being a gentlemen. It ain't gonna go well for you; trust me. Ladies like to be pampered even if they appear to be the most fearest and liberated. So go ahead and keep on being charmers!!! hahahahaha

Absolutely! I expect to be treated like a lady so therefore, it is more than appropriate for a male to open the door for me and follow afterward.. It produces and exhibits honor and respect on both sides..

Personally, I think chivalry will only be dead when we let it die. Most (okay, all that I can think of right off) women and girls I know want to be shown that they're cared about and that their womanhood is appreciated. It's a simple gesture to open a door, but it's meaningful. When in doubt, be chivalrous. The girl you're trying to impress may not notice, but I can bet that somebody will think it's really sweet.

It must be we noticed a guy not open the door for a woman recently and we thought he was rude. I really like it, so I always thank the man.

kindness and courtesy hopefully are always welcomed. A gentleman will do what is right regardless of what other men do. The world needs more gentleman, even though there are quite a few out there.
