I used to bleach my hair when I dyed mine purple because in order to get the purple to stick all pigment has to be stripped of the hair. It is a lot of upkeep and that is why I am no longer purple-headed! I would suggest going to your mall's Spencer's or Hot Topic and picking up hair bleach. They both carry different brands. If you are just looking for really platinum blonde hair I would suggest buying the bleach in a package that also sells toner. That evens out the bleach so that although it still looks shocking, it will not be quite so yellow tinged. You can also look up hair bleach online. DO NOT use normal household bleach. Bad bad idea! Leave the mixing to the people who make the hair bleach. Now, as far as what it feels like, if you have any abbrasions on your scalp, or cuts, even where you have scratched your scalp where it has been dry, it will sting. Otherwise, it will itch and you will want to scratch, and then the pain comes. I would wear something you don't care about when doing it because you will get bleach product on it and it will ruin it. Also, put newspaper down around you and remove anything of value from your vicinity.

I wouldn't advise this due to past experiences, but if you really want some tips, then I'll give you a few. Hunch over the sink and pour bleach over your hair, making sure not to get ANY in your eyes. When you feel your hair getting warm and when you hear that faint fizzing sound, rinse immediately and thoroughly. Regular bleach seems to be the better choice. Adding a bit of water to the bleach before putting it in your hair may make the process a little less harsh on your hair. Once you are finished, your hair may feel a little brittle or fragile and it really will be.

Sweety, I understand you don't want to hear this, but I have to say it.

Don't bleach your hair yourself! Bleach is a highly toxic chemical no matter where you get it or what kind it is. If you don't understand the chemistry of it and of the hair, you can completely ruin your hair and end up at the salon to get it fixed in the end for even more money.

Not only that, but you can burn your scalp very easily and if you do, the aftermath of it can last for months. My mom's had an episode of it before from haircolor and it wasn't very good.

Also, if you're planning on bleaching all of your hair, consider what you're going to do down the line. Do you want to do retouches every month or two? Maybe you'll just want to do some highlights in your hair. Either way, as far as chemicals go, professionals is who you really should turn to. Just save up some money. It'll be better than having to go to a salon later to get it fixed for more money.

Not a good idea to do it yourself. If you have dark hair, it is very tricky not to get it to come out as orange. Not to mention that if you leave it on too long it will eat your hair and your scalp. Literally. Plus, if you have used certain products on your hair like Sun In, the bleach will not have a good reaction to it.

If you can't afford a professional, then you shouldn't do it. Asking if you can use regular bleach sound to me like you have no clue what you are doing, and I don't mean to be nasty, but you can do some serious damage to your hair and scalp. Using regular hair dye at home is fine, but bleaching is best left in the hands of professionals.

Don't use regular bleach, it's not the same thing at all. You can go to Sally beauty supply and usually the girls in there can help you buy something to use at home. Or you can go to Walmart and purchase a highlighter kit, not a blonde color. The highlightening kits are just to put streaks in your hair but they also work for doing the whole thing. If you buy one take one strand of hair from underneath and test it out first to see how light it gets and how your hair handles the bleach. Then you can do your whole head. Hope this helps....

No, do NOT use regular bleach! You really should go to a pro if you want to get it done. You don't know what you're doing if you think you can use regular bleach. (No offense.) As someone else said, keeping it up is hard. I personally think everyone should keep the hair color they were born with.♥

No. Bleach used at the salon is completely different. You need to go to a beauty supply place and buy "scalp bleach". Wellite is good. Then mix it with 20 volume cream developer, also at the beauty supply store.Or get some kalidacolors blue or violet and mix with 30 or 40 depending how many shades you want to lift.

Keeping up bleached hair is hard. The dark roots are always showing up quicker than you want. the same color when redoing is hard to get, unless you have a professional. Then you are talking 80.00 bucks every 6 weeeks. Love your color and go for highlights.

Why don't you find a beauty school and have them do it? Their prices are quite reasonable.

Or you can go to the beauty supply store, like Sallys and ask there how to go about it. They'll tell you because they want to sell you the material to do it with.

If you have light-colored hair, it will be easy. If you have dark hair, it could turn yellow or orange. That's why you really need help with it.

i think the better bleach to use is something "blue" it's a small blue package. you find it in sally's beauty supplies. then you mix it with a 20 or 30 developer . do not use a 40 developer cause you'll ruin your hair. it works really quick, like in 15 min or less. you can also use a toner afterwards to lighten it up or make it not orange ( if it turns orange, but it usually just turns nice blonde). hope this helps.
