1. Research the company and position before the interview. You can get company information from their Web site. Memorize important facts.
2. Make sure your interview clothes are clean and pressed a few days beforehand
3. Be on time.
4. Take good-quality copies of your resume on a nice grade of paper. Take more copies than you will possibly need - just in case. Store the copies in a folder where they will stay clean and unwrinkled
5. Prepare questions for the interview. Your research on the company and position should lead you to questions for starts.
6. Be prepared to discuss past projects. Review the most relevant for that is where the focus of discussion might be.
7. Make good eye contact.
8. Listen carefully and wait your turn to speak. Make sure you understand a question before you attempt to answer it.
9. Always tell the truth on applications and in an interview.
10. Ask what will happen next with respect to your application for the position.
11. Satisfy any request for additional information within 24 hours. Your ability to follow-up is very much part of the test, and not outside it.
12. Follow up diligently with your staffing agency's recruiter or client account manager. It is their job to meet their client's needs, and they could use your help in making sure the follow-up is done right.

Sitting on a computer playing is NOT the answer.
Try being educated, and visible.
Apply.
Return phone calls.
Dress nicely and talk well.
Move where they are hiring.
Know the right person.
Show up.
Use family connections.
Invent something we all use, like paper.
Sell yourself into a sales job.
Do something illegal or dangerous.
Stay where you are, and learn the next job up the rung.
Accept responsibility readily.
Do what no one else will do.
Figure out what you are interested in and what you have to do to do that. Do that.
Luck.
Good luck.

A friendship with the hiring manager. It doesn't matter how great your resume looks if you can develope a relationship during the interview. No one hires people they "feel" good about.
Always smile, have interview answers planned ahead of time, and make eye contact. Most of the time they ask for a weakness so have that one planned out so it is truthful but it also makes you look good.

A place with a strong union is always a good bet for something that pays well and lasts. You won't find yourself thrown out on your butt because the boss was in a bad mood that day.
