I'm hoping to do an internship soon, and I have to find an organization. I am aiming for a career in law enforcement, but I am not sure what an internship with a PD would be like. I got some general information, but it was vague - and I assume that is because you work out your own plans with your supervisor. Does anyone know what sort of things interns at PDs do ? Is it mostly office work? Any help is appreciated .. even if you explain why it might be a bad idea. Thank you

Also I've been on a few ride alongs and I am going to be working with my university PD as a CSO simultaneously. I am not really asking for help about how to pursue the career as much as I am asking about the internships. Thanks again =)

Anything that gives you an insight to you choice of career cant be a bad thing. It also shows interest and commitment on your behalf.

It maybe worth while if you haven't allready calling your local station and asking to speak about it.

If you do your internship with a pd you will probably be learning mosly the paper work that an officer covers--------not too many ride alongs will occur because the county will be held accountable if you are injured. If you really are considering law enforcement-----check out doing your internship with a probation office or a campus police---

At many departments the intern will divide their time between being at the department and performing ride alongs with the different officers.

you don't have to have a college degree to be a police officer.

You can't really intern as a PO, but at the department? Yea, it would be office work.
