Get a third opinion- and it most likely will be not to remove it unless it is painful.

I've had many cyst problems in the past, and a few larger than that --which the doctors wanted to remove.

I suggest waiting a while. It's not a life threatening thing, even though having a cyst can be painful. Sometimes the surgery has more problems than just waiting.

In most cases the cyst's will go away on their own, given enough time.

If it bothers you then have it removed. If not, leave it alone. This is not life threatening, anyway. Besides, no one will inspect the back of your knee unless it's the doc.

See a third doctor with experience and go with that.

the question to ask is: is it bothering you? if not, leave it alone. if is is, then just have your friendly orthopod excise it...basically they are benign collections of fluid behind the knee usually caused by trauma...
