Sometimes, I can't tell what they did, so I say 'bless you.' But if I know it's just a cough, I say what you said. "What do you say for someone after they cough?" Then they look at me like I'm an idiot, and I feel like walking away.

I always just say bless you, or God bless you. And they're like, but I just coughed? And I say, SO?

If someone coughs only once I would not say anything, but if they cough more then 3 times or if the cough sounds pretty bad then, I usually say 'you cool?' 'you ok?' 'y'alright?' and/or 'you want somethin for that?'

nothing. the most polite thing to do is to act as if nothing happened at all. Society acknowledges that these noises are made from time to time, but does not dignify them with a response.

Well you can be polite and say " God Bless you" or you can just say "**** off n let the devil kiss you"
