in my religious studies class right now i have a choice between doing a harder paper on head covering in all three of the monotheistic faiths (ill get an extra week to do this one b/ the research is difficult)..... or an easier paper on headcovering in Islam (there is much more info out there on this but this paper will be due sooner.....
what does everybody think?
peace and blessings to all

i truly did not expect such good answers..... i'm definitely going to go with the harder paper.... i am a religious studies major and i was really interested in the first paper (i'm muslim and i cover my head so the second one is good to but kind of old news to me)..... i was just worried about not being able to find sufficient research.... but you all offered good suggestions thank you
peace and blessings

Go for the first one. It will give you more time to cover your a55. Seriously, head covering in all three monotheistic religions is easy as pie. Since all three are based in Judaism, you simply have to draw a correlation to the head covering practices of ancient Jews.
Use logic to link the practice of female head-covering in puritan Christian practices as well as recent christian tradition and you're halfway there.
I don't know the specific muslim practices of head covering in the Muslim faith, but again since it's based in Judaism, the link shouldn't be hard to extrapolate.
My advice though, instead of using Google or Wikipedia, go out and actually talk to an old Rabbi. He can likely tell you exactly why the tradition exists and where it came from.

I think that even though it is a much harder paper to write, the topic of all three monotheistic faiths would be so much more enlightning. You would be able to compare and contrast all three and in the long run may have more to talk about rather then just focusing on Islam. Neat topic to research thought! Good Luck!

Well, it depends on your long-term plans. If you want to spend the rest of your life working in retail, fastfood, or production (factories)- don't waste your time on the more difficult assignment. If you want to continue your education so you are more marketable to the job market of your choice, the extra time spent on the more difficult assignment will be an investment well made. It's not about the topic you are researching so much as it is about the ability to do research.

Considering how critical people are of Islam in regards to women being expected to keep their heads covered, I think it would be great to learn about what these religions have in common. Sure would help you to make a positive difference in your discussions and could help eradicate a lot of prejudice.

Depends, if you really care about your religious studies class and would like to show your professor you care. Then write the harder one, if it is just a class you don’t care about, write the one on head coverings.

I would do the first one, you get more time and there is alot of info on all 3 religions and you can do a compare/contrast sortof paper which are pretty easy to do.

there's not much difference in covering one or all three. the practice of head covering has specific origins in each and is not that difficult to find out why, and how it came to be.

You might as well do all three faiths and find a parallel reason. Why for instance, the early church fathers admonished women to cover their beauty when attending church.

well, it depends.. on the abrahamic faiths, only islam still covers their heads, and some jews, but it's not a huge thing. besides nuns lol, very few of us christians do.
i would do the one on all to learn about all faiths, but hey, do which one you want. :)
