Jim Crow laws were state and local laws enacted in the Southern and border states of the United States and in force between 1876 and 1964 that required racial segregation, especially of African-Americans, in all public facilities. "Jim Crow period" or the "Jim Crow era" refers to the time during which this practice occurred. The most important laws required that public schools and most public places (including trains and buses) have separate facilities for whites and blacks. (These Jim Crow Laws were separate from the 1800-1866 Black Codes, which had restricted the civil rights and civil liberties of African Americans.)

Jim Crow Law---were laws that were passed in the Southern states to keep the people of different races separate. These practices were expecially common for public places such as; schools, buses, trains, etc. In 1964 President Lyndon Johnson passed a law into Congress that desegregated all schools and other areas.
The purpose of this law was basically to keep blacks and whites separate.

Jim Crow laws were primarily used to disenfranchise black people. Education was not equally available, if you couldn't write your name you could not vote, had to be a property owner to vote, blacks not allowed to own property in the voting district, gerimandering to the point that black neighborhoods or districts were actually left out of the process altogether, not in a voting ditrict, you can't vote for anything.
As they were outlawed, new ones would crop up - Until LBJ signed put the Voting Rights Act(s) into effect in the mid '60's.

Jim Crow laws were racist laws that kept African Americans from their rights. Such as segregated bathrooms, denying of healthcare because of race, and so on. These laws were made out of hate and to keep African Americans from gaining power and respect.
