My grandpa is in ICU and he's very bad. He is 82 and has phnumonia and hasn't been eating. They said his kidneys were very dehydrated. Today they had to insert a feeding tube and they said he wasn't getting oxygen in his blood so they put him on a ventalator. Is a ventalator the same as life support? I'm very worried the doctor said that he's only giving him about a 20% chance of living. He needs prayer so plz remember him.

Since he has a ventalator which goes through his mouth and they inserted a feeding tube this would not affect his voice if he makes it will it?

I'm not going to sugar-coat this. It sounds pretty bad. I'm not saying that he couldn't make a recovery, but from my experience, and based on what you written, it doesn't sound like there is much hope. I'm very sorry.
Now, keep in mind, that I have very little information to go on, so don't give up hope - just realize that this may not end the way you wish.
If he has pneumonia, I assume that he is on IV antibiotics. If they work for him, his lungs may clear up, and he may regain the strength to breath adequately on his own. I'll hope for the best. Good luck!
The endotracheal (ET) tube that they inserted for breathing would be the only tube that contacted the vocal cords. The feeding tube will be in his esophagus. Since the ET tube was inserted in a pretty well-controlled environment, and probably by an anesthesiologist, I'd say there's little chance of damage, and if he recovers, his voice should be fine - probably a little weak and scratchy at first, but it should heal.

I would advise both. Get the CMA first, it's quicker, and you can then get a part time job as a CMA at a considerably higher rate of pay than minimum wage, which is about what you can earn without some sort of training, or certification. Then enroll in the Associate's Degree Program. CMAs have a pay range that is not very wide. And too, with the AA degree you will be more likely to be considered for a position with doctors who are specialists, becaause of the greater depth of your knowledge and skills training.

Yes, it is life support. No, it won't effect his voice. Pray for what is best for your Grandpa...what would he want now? Too often medicine interferes with life - and death. There is a time when the body just gives out and is ready for a rest...for some of us, it's in our 40's...for some, in our 80's. Grandpa has had a good life and clearly, has family that dearly loves him...spend time with him...talk to him...touch him...and tell him how much you love him...and be sure to tell him that you'll understand if he has to "go". Here's a hug for you! This is a sad time for your family. It's OK to cry. Lots of us are thinking about you tonight! God bless!

Basically life support means that the ventilator is keeping him alive. So with the combination of the vent, and the feeding tube, i would say yes, but it also depends on if he is/was conscious before he was intubated. No the tube will not affect his voice, he will be hoarse for a while though

A ventilator is used to help a patient breathe that has respiratory difficulties. So sorry about ur Grandpa. May the Lord Bless and heal him soon.
