No. Walking for 30 minutes a day and NOT eating fatty, sugary, high calorie, highly processed, greasy, or hydrogenated foods will. Walking won't do jack for you if you drink sodas all day, eat candy and snacks, and indulge in fast food. I see these women walking every day, and they just keep getting fatter. Then I saw one of them at the food court in the corporate campus and she was ordering a cheeseburger, with onion rings, and a diet coke (why bother with the diet coke?). You have to make better choices than that. It's not always easy, and sometimes you won't stick to your plan, but that has to be the exception, not the rule. Healthy living is about your entire lifestyle, not one activity that can contribute to a healthy lifestyle. Diet sodas actually cause increased water retention and are really bad for you. Normal sodas have enough sugar in them to give Willie Wonka a stroke. Drink water, juices, keep caffeinated beverages to a minimum, and never drink those high-carb energy drinks. They are liquid fat in a can. You need to find a lifestyle that works for you and helps you to achieve your personal fitness and health goals. We can't all be Lance Armstrong or Gabrielle Reese, and there's no reason to strive for that if it's not something you really want for yourself. If you just want to be a healthier person who remains within a specified weight or size range, adjust your lifestyle to make that happen. Just don't go too far the other direction. People can get obsessive about weight and fitness to the point that they look great but have no life. As with all things, balance is the key.

Walking will normally not make you lose weight. However if walking is challenging( meaning if it is hard to walk for 30 min and you break a good sweat) than yes it can help you to lose weight. Walking is a form of cardio usually used by people who are substantually over weight and can not physically do anything more streneuos. But if walking is easy to do for you then this is not a good way to lose weight. Try to jog or ride a bike if this is the case.

You will only lose weight if your walk burns off more calories than you take in. Restrict yourself to 1200 cals a day and walk 30 -40 mins and you should lose 3lb a week.

First of all calcualte your Body Mass Index.
BMI= wt/ht*ht (weight in kg divided by height in meter square)
If it falls between the range of
18-24 -- healthy
25-29 -- over weight
30- and above obese.
If you are in the healthy range, just maintain it by 40min brisk walking a day. As when you statr walking, only after 20 minutes you would start burning calories fi you walk for another 20 minutes, you would burn more calories.
If you fall in the overweight or obese category, then you will have to go on a diet as well as exercise to get into the ideal range.
go ahead enjoy your brisk walking

Absolutely. But the amount will vary depending on distance, speed, diet, and other determining factors.
Also, the amount you lose might not be as much as someone else who does the same amount of walking.
Important point is to hydrate yourself with water only.

You need to go at a brisk pace (after you work up to it), not a casual stroll.
