I have also read not to leave them in there longer then 6 hrs or so, but i had a boxer that i crate trained until she was older and learned how to hold her bladder and poo. After they get trained you can leave them out more when your home. When she got older i left her out all the time. I left my dog in longer at the beginning though, even though what i read. You just make sure you take it out to potty and play when you are home. I would take it out every morning before work to potty and let her run around til i got ready to leave for work , then i;d put her back in the crate or porter. After work you have to make sure you go right home and take her out to potty, or have your spouse take her out if your not there!! You have to pick a certain time to do this evryday! A routine is what your dog will need the same routine evryday! When i got off work I would take my dog out to potty first thing so no acidents in the house, then after potty and would feed and water her. She then stayed out of the porter until it was time for me to go to bed, at bed time i put her back in porter. where she slept all night until morning then out again!! When you are home make sure to let her/him out of the crate to play, eat, and stuff!! You can't go shopping all day and leave it in there, let your spouse watch it while your gone, that way its not in the crate all the time, only when it has to be!! like when no one is home or your at work or when its bed time! I had my boxer for 13 yrs or more, and she was a good smart dog!! I use to leave her porter open after taking her out, when i was home and sometimes when i was busy or something she would just go get in her porter herself!! They get use to it. I would say Bed, to her and she knew to go to BED !! when it was time ! well good luck!

6-7 hours should be the most. She's fine in a kennel. If you think she's going to be hungry during the day, you can buy a little bowl that hooks onto the door. Just use a little dry food.
Puppies tend to sleep a lot so she'll be okay in the crate. It keeps her safe and your stuff safe. ;) Just put some toys in there for her to play with and if you want, leave the tv on. I always put it on Animal Planet on low volume. Toys that'll keep her busy are the ones you stick treats in. Those should keep her busy for a couple of hours.
You're doing the right thing. You have to do what's right for you and your dog. It's not safe for a puppy to roam free around a house he doesn't know. It could get into wires, plants, poison.
Good luck.

puppies will just go everywhere. you need to train the puppy. they say crate training is the best technique but i didn't go that way with my dog. i just made the laundry room her room and i put a bin with a training pad thing on it. she learned really quickly that it was the place for her to go to the bathroom. it's really a good idea to let your dog run around and get some exercise during the middle of the day. im also a dog walker and it really helps to take the dog out so it could get some air and learn to go to the bathroom outdoors as well. and hiring a dog walker isn't too expensive either. they usually charge about $10-15 a day for about 30 minute walks.

I DON'T KNOW IF A 6 HR WAIT COULD DAMAGE HER KIDNEY OR BLADDER GROWTH. GENERALLY, IT'S BETTER TO WORK THEM UP TO STRETCHES OF TIME LIKE THAT. CRATE TRAINING IS A GREAT IDEA. BESIDES KEEPING YOUR HOUSE CLEANER, SHE BE SAFE FROM CHEWING ON WIRES OR OTHER HARMFUL THINGS. ASK YOUR FRIEND TO COME OVER ABOUT AN HOUR LATER FOR A WEEK OR 2 AND SEE HOW SHE DOES. AND KEEP MAKING IT LATER.
