Unfortunately, your husband will first go to the nearest MEPS station to process before he travels to his basic training post. During the reception, about the first week after his arrival, the Army will process among everything else, his pay status. It takes 30 days to initially start the pay program, because he is paid for the previous 30 days of work. Okay, that said, might I suggest that you contact all of your creditors and explain to them that he just left for Basic and that money will be a little tight until December. I am sure that without a penalty, most will work it out with you until the money direct deposits into your bank accounts. If you find yourself running short, exhaust the avenues available to you at home before getting him all worked up. I am not suggesting that now he should not care, but this can be a critical time of learning for him and any distractions can have a negative effect. Yet, taking care of you and any youngsters is his job one, first priority, so if you need money, then he can apply for an "advance", I recommend that you not do this, but it is available to you. Remember, that if you take an advance, then the money will be subtracted at the end of the month.

Your military allotment is not paid to you in advance but has to be accured first. Nothing different from civilian life when starting a new job. If your husband has filed the correct paper work for your allotment your check should arrive in the mail on the 1st of the month which in this case would be December 1st. If for some reason you fall into a bill payment problem, I suggest you contact the business and explain it to them and I'm sure they will give you an extended amount of time to pay the bill until at which time you receive your allotment check. You've fallen into a Catch 22 problem because of the time of his enlistment. Good luck to the both of you.

I don't recall getting paid until the 5th week of basic, which would put Dec. 1 as about right. I don't know the logic behind it, other than while in basic you don't need any money because your basic needs are covered by the military.
Budget accordingly - when I was in we got paid the first and the fifteenth. Once he finishes basic you can apply for on base housing, which will eliminate your housing costs, other than cable and phone. It helps. Take advantage of the other benefits the military offers, and learn to adjust your budget.

My husband joined in 2005 and since he was the only one working (I was at home with our 6 month old) we had NO income coming in at all. Everyone that posted is right. It really does take that long to get that first check. But, let me give you a word of advice that will help you immensely! Go to your local Air Force base and go to Family Support (I think they call it the Airman and Family Rediness Center now). Speak with someone there about the Air Force Aid Society. You can get money to help pay your bills until he is paid. If you don't qualify for the Air Force Aid Society, they can contact your creditors and send them documentation that your husband is in basic and won't be apid for 5 weeks. That's what I had to do. They contacted our Landlord and car company and spoke with them and send documention. These creditors can't do anything to you once he joins and is in basic. The government will protect you.

you have to get through meps etc. plus they will take uniforms out of his check. pay day is the 1st and 15th. unless those days fall on a weekend or holiday. then its the friday before. (its 2 paydays a month not 1 like the guy said earlier in the answers)
learn to budget wisely. the military isnt a mad cash job like the recruiter probably led you to believe. housing usually has a long wait. and the amount you get for off base housing is based on where you are stationed. also take advantage of the military savings plan (there version of a 410k) invest in the gi bill, he may not want to use it now but he could change his mind. and if you like the doctors you have, you can use tricare standard instead of prime and it will basically eat your other insurances copay.
also this will help you figure out pay. pretaxes and any with holdings he opts for.

The processing of the payroll and the training is too long making the pay until Dec. 1.

you only get paid on the 1st and 15th. As a private he will be making like 200 bucks every 2 weeks, it may be more if he has dependents, like 300 a month, and if you BAH, for living off post, but that depend on where you live. between like 700 and 1200 a month

Believe it or not, the military was never meant for married E-1's. You haven't seen anything yet.
