I dont know but I find it offensive, especially all the crap about wolves, that really ruffles my feathers (figuratively speaking). I think it is because they are illogical and do not think scientifically, and are somehow trying to explain things without science or rationality in an attempt to explain phenomenon they cant understand. Remember these ideas were written down by people who had no real knowledge of science hundreds of years ago and are just misconceptions passed down to the next generation...

Religions, to keep control of their sheep, must constantly create myths, metaphors, allegories so as to tempt or frighten. Animals, since they can't argue "descrimination" have been used historically. Religions used to call "mental illness" the work of the devil" and most afflictions such as AIDS as a "punishment".
Religions like people, don't need a reason for their 'hatred" and disrespect.
Using animals as symbols of evil is a typical example of "hate" and disrespect of the ONE"s Creation. I call ONE, what some religions call "God" or the lowly "LORD" as in the house of Lords or Lord Conrad Black. Jesus is Lord, God is Lord and people are sheep and animals are used for good and evil.
Religion is not to be understood but "obeyed" on faith alone. In most religions, the intellect is the Devil as they claim that the intellect fools us into thinking that we know and that we can figure out how to get into a "communication" with the ONE without the "intercession" of the religion and their prophets and other icons (Saints, Virgin Mary, Muhommed, etc..)

I always felt that religion came about as a way to explain why certain things happen during times when civilizations had no better way to make sense of things. That's why SO many ancient civilizations believed in gods whether they were earthly or heavenly. It only makes sense that since religion was used to explain everything such as death and what happens after.. that it also be used to understand why some animals would attack while others run away..

Frogs are disgusting, Snakes can kill you and Big Horns can maim and impale you... Sheeps can give you food and clothing, Doves are good pets and food(when you are starving), Fish is definitely food with Omega 3. If I were to choose who I would spend my life in a cave I would rather take the Good side.

In the Old Testament, animals were divided into two groups.
Ceremonially clean, or unclean. You'll find it in Leviticus and Deuteronomy.
