The rattle is coming from the cylinder 1 area, and seems to increase with revs, also accompanied by an almost inaudible squeek. The codes were read and cleared by a friend of mine, it threw 3 codes. An MAF circuit high, IAT circuit low, and misfire on cylinder 1. Also, just replaced the spark plugs, thinking i blew one, so that didn't fix the problem. Also accompanied with the problem is the backfire and loss of power, although if cylinder 1 is misfiring that would be the answer to that, just figured that might help add to the details. I haven't yet taken it to a garage, I don't have the money, I'm just trying to see if anyone on here might have had a similar problem. Preferably with a 4.6 litr sohc engine in a mustang from the years 1999 to mid 2001. Although I'm not picky, any ideas, help or advice is appreciated.

If the engine is a 4.6L, and its a noise in the engine, the timing chain guides might be worn out.
Hard to say what's wrong without hearing the noise.

Well I'm an entry level tech for a Toyota dealership. I don't know alot but I went to school for auto. I'm not too familiar with alot but my suggestion would have been the spark plugs. All I can say is dont push it and when you get a chance goto a dealership or a very good independant shop.

no, if you bought a camaro, you'd have other problems.
misfiring sounds about right, but I don't know enough about engines to tell you off hand. My suggestion though, since you seem to want to work on the car yourself, is to take it to a shop...I know you don't have the cash for them to fix it, but some places will let you take it in to have it diagnosed. They could also tell you what the codes meant.

Does the rattle increase with RPM?

If so, it may be a valve lifter that needs adjustment.
