Here's the deal. I'm overweight. I want to eat healthy and walk atleast a mile a day. Usually when I do this...when I'm not pregnant...I lose a lot of weight. Just by eatting well and walking. Can I still lose weight or stay the same if I do this while pregnant? Can I atleast build some muscle? Is lifting weights okay?

You should really speak to your doctor about this, that way, they can monitor your weight during your pregnancy. It's normal to put on about 20-30 lbs during a pregnancy but many women differ. Speaking in general, eating healthy and walking is a great way to combat extra weight gain. Lifting weights can be okay but you have to be careful.. It depends on your current fitness level, the amount of weight and how often you do it. Many athletes maintain a certain level of fitness when they are pregnant, but there are times when you have to slack off, and avoid certain exercises. You do not want to get your heartrate above 140 and if you are lifting weights, the best advice I can give is to do light reps. No squats or dead lifts., As well, at a certain point in pregnancy, some abdominal exercises are contraindicated because of risk of cutting off oxygen supply to the baby.. Rule of thumb.. Listen to your body, don't over-exert.. But don't be a couch potato.. Swimming is also a great exercise..

you need to speak to your OB/GYN, but, you may lift 3-5 pound free weights, not too often, maybe every other day. walking is great-- althrough the pregnancy. the myth of 'your eating for two' is a misconception. you really need about only 500 or so extra calories a day, equaling out to a bagel. most american women these days intake 1000 or so EXTRA calories a day, when they are NOT pregnant! you may be able to stay the weight you are if you eat right... when the baby is born, continue the walks. eat small, frequent meals, instead of 3 hearty ones, eat 5-6 fist-sized portions. eat less meat, more fruits and vegetables. get alot of your protien from nuts and beans. again, when your baby is born, stay with the frequent small meals. they will give you energy for the baby throug out the day, and help you to lose weight. allow yourself to have a treat ONCE in a while... your a mommy, you deserve it!

CONGRATULATIONS, and best of luck. im pregnant too! :) :) :)

If you don't gain weight during your pregnancy there is a problem. Now is not the time to try and loose weight. Of course exercise and eating right is not going to be harmful, but make sure you are eating enough. Nomatter how heavy you are you should still gain during pregnancy. Wait til after to try and loose it. If you breastfeed it will help!

with my first pregnancy I weigh about 165 (prepregnancy), at my last weigh in at 39weeks I weighed 152. I had been eating healthier and exercising. After I delived I got down to 125 and have two more children and still weigh 125. Good Luck to you. By the way I have given birth to three healthy children with healthy weights. The first was 7lbs 5 oz. even though I lost weight.

you know really if you walk alot during pregnancy labor wont be **** to you at all. It gives you a good pregnancy and you baby will be healthy. Keep walking. And lifting weights is a no no. It could be to heavy and put pressure on your baby. But if its 5pounds or less go ahead

You must not attempt a weight loss regimen during pregnancy without a doctor's approval and instruction. A low birth-weight in a baby can be very serious!

Lifting weights is deffinetly a NO. You can strain or pull a muscle. Now with the loosing weight you dont want to loose weight when your pregnant. Overweight or not your doctor will urge you to gain weight. Thats for the babies health. Dont worry about loosing weight til your no longer pregnant. Just for the saftly of your baby. Good Luck
