Black is made by using 2 colors on opposite sides of the color wheel. For food, the best bet is red and green. Other possibilities are blue and orange or yellow and purple.

Use red, blue and green in equal amounts and then add more blue and green to get it dark. It won't be a true black, but it will be dark.

You can also buy black food coloring paste with the cake decorating supplies at a craft store..the walmart in my area carries it....

You can't, most blacks are highly concentrated purples or blues. You have to buy it.
