The Indian society is an exclusive society. They greet and welcome any number of groups to come and settle down in this land. But, all these groups will not integrate themselves into one community. Unlike, the West. Take the example of England. The English society is a mixture of the Celts, the Germanic tribes, angles, the Saxons, and the Normans. Now, you cannot trace these groups in that society. They are totally integrated. In the same England, now the Asian groups from India, Pakistan and other countries have immigrated but they do not integrate themselves with the rest of the British. Similarly, the separate group identities in India, have led to the proliferating of castes. It is difficult for them to have marital alliances, as a matter of course. Even, if there is some inter caste marriage, that will not lead to the eventual disappearance of the caste of system. The caste tag is attached even to the progenies of the inter caste marriages. They are known as belonging to the caste of the father.

Considering there are almost a billion Hindus today, its a safe bet to say there will still be plenty in 2020 or even 2100. "A lot" can be fairly subjective. If the elders see two young people in a small community leave Hinduism they may call that "a lot." Also, the simple fact is that every generation complains about the failure of the next generation. Literally, they've been doing it since the invention of writing. Culture is changing in India. I'm guessing that a lot of caste rules are no longer being followed by many (and I don't believe the government even recognises castes anymore), but just because people aren't following old rules doesn't mean they are abandoning their gods and their beliefs. Honestly, the idea that religions are supposed to remain stagnant and unchanging creeps the hell out of me. How is a religion supposed to address my life if its based on an out-of-date culture?

A lot of Hindu nationalists claim that inter-caste marriage and inter-racial relationships are "clearly banned" in the Bhagavad Gita.
In my college textbook for my religion class, it included a lot of "supposed verses" from Hindu texts. I remember reading something that mentioned a Brahmin man marrying a Sudra woman would go to hell? Then again, this book was written by a white author, and I understand that a lot of books try to misrepresent Hinduism and post things that wouldn't be considered "scriptures" to noble Hindus. Also, I was raised that Hindus don't believe in the abrahamic concept of hell. So, I guess that quote about the Brahmin man doesn't make sense.
I have seen cases (people I know) where "high-caste" women divorce their husbands, because they were very abusive, unfaithful and cruel to them. These same women end up finding kinder men, but their husbands are of a different caste. For example, my mom's friend married a Vaishya man (who is a great person and treats her w/equality and respect), when she was a Kshatriya. The male relatives, who consider themselves to be very religious, throw a huge fit and blame the woman.
I don't understand, isn't it wrong to treat your wife like an animal in the first place? Doesn't everybody have the right to a happy marriage? Why would the relatives get mad at for divorcing such a horrible husband that doesn't respect his own wife, and remarrying somebody that treats her right and makes a successful marriage?
Since these people consider themselves to be so religious, I was just wondering if there were any verses that labeled inter-caste marriage to be bad. I'm just trying to understand what makes them so angry. I personally think one's character should matter more than social caste when it comes to finding a life partner. I think that would be common sense for anybody. My mom told me that some people in India get mad at these things, because marrying within your caste has been ingrained within our culture for thousands of years, and that people want to preserve the ways of Indian culture.

In our society--the marraige is just to get a well placed man and a beautiful woman. They never bother for any thing.Just to make it done.Sometimes it effects the life of so many innocent men and woman. They cant love each other --still has to roll on.Its a pathetic condition.to bear with.So they are not happy and the best point is this that they have to act as best couple in the world. How hippocrite our society is.So is also the same with the internet marriage. It is better not to be married rather than whom you dont know personally.

Vedic Hinduism did enumerate several categories of unequal weddings like-gaandharva vivaaha, pratiloam vivaha, & rakshsas vivaah. Does not seem to mind intercaste marriages.

Read Sree Narayana Guru's teachings. it is more relevant for indian than any scriptures or god.
He said "One caste, one religion, one god - for Man". the stress on the word for man is more significant.
Nobody in the history of world has said so. no scriptures of any religion has said so. its strange what these religions are trying to do. i think conflict is the only aim of all religions.
inter-caste marriage is essential for the survival of human race. it gives rise to a stronger human genes, that is able to withstand harsher environment. coupled with spirituality, it will make man a better person.
