Repentence by its own definition is a "turning away from"..it means to turn away from one's sin. It is a sorrow about that sin, and a searching for forgiveness from the one who is so prompt and willing to give it; our merciful God. Feeling truly sorry for what you have done. Desiring not to do it again. And most importantly, knowing the love and forgiveness of our Father in heaven, which is given instantly to those who ask.

Repent means change. When you repent of your sins before God it must be from the heart, not the mouth. If you TRULY repent you're heart will be pierced by the knowledge that you have sinned against your Heavenly Father. You will be so ashamed of your past behaviors you will weep with a contrite heart and never DESIRE to do those sins again. When this happens, the Father forgives you. He expects obedience from us, but yet knows we are human and are weak and will always be sinful. As a christian, once we have obeyed the instructions in the New Testament (Acts 2:38), we can have assurance that we will always be forgiven as long as we have faith, obedience and repentance. That's what's so wonderful about being a christian. Jesus paid the ultimate price on that cross for me, and you, sinners, so that we may have the hope of eternal life with Him in heaven. Paul said he was the chiefest of sinners, yet he was one of the chosen of Christ. I am a Christian, but I am also a sinner, just forgiven.

I included the Strongs definition of 'repent' found in Luke 17:4

3340 metanoeo { met-an-o-eh’-o}

from 3326 and 3539; TDNT - 4:975,636; v

AV - repent 34; 34

GK - 3566 { μετανοέω }

1) to change one’s mind, i.e. to repent
2) to change one’s mind for better, heartily to amend with abhorrence of one’s past sins

Repentance is to change your mind. Hopefully your body will follow!
Seriously, look up 'repent' in your concordance. YOu will see that the person doing the repenting is changing their mind and then their behavior follows up if they are truly repentent.

You will only know if you are truly repented in a matter if you overcome that temptation in the future. That is called a trial! LOL

That is what is meant by being an overcomer. But when we do slip we have the BLOOD!

Revelation 12:11 (KJV)
11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

Notice that we only have a testimony if we pass the 'test'.

Hey we all have sins that we want to get rid of.

1 John 1:8-2:1 (KJV)
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

So don't beat yourself up about it. The more you know the Word, and sup with Him, the more you will recognize your authority, then that old man starts fading away. If you read that last scripture closely, you will see that God cleanses us from unrighteousness! Yeah, the job becomes His. So confess repent, and move on!

The importance: To name what you did wrong, aginst God or man...Sin, actions inactions ect. To name something gives you control over it and more importantly forgivness.

The process:Knowing it, confessing it, changing it(With Gods power not your own) the last one is important confession isnt repentance without change.

True repentance= The hebrew word often translated repentance,, or turn and Repent is Teshuva(Forgive spelling) wich means to do a complete 180 turn away from what your repenting of. for example... Repentance is defined as a change of mind. When you believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for your sins and when He was buried He took you sins away and He rose again the third day for your justification. 1 Corinthians 3: 16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? You can now repent and have a change of mind about your sins. Now you turn from them because you have the Holy Spirit living within you. You can grieve the Holy Spirit because of your actions but you are still sealed until the day of redemption. Ephesians 4: 30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

True repentence would be realizing that you have done a wrong, admitting to God that you know you have done a wrong and then turning around from that behavior and no longer doing that wrong. I really love the way the apostle Peter says it at

Acts 3:19-21: "“Repent, therefore, and turn around so as to get YOUR sins blotted out, that seasons of refreshing may come from the person of Jehovah (20) and that he may send forth the Christ appointed for YOU, Jesus, (21) whom heaven, indeed, must hold within itself until the times of restoration of all things of which God spoke through the mouth of his holy prophets of old time."

The importance of repentance is to gain God's favor by living our lives by his standard (as much as we imperfect humans can), and when we fall short, to acknowledge it and to ask forgiveness and then to act in a way that shows we are repentant...to turn around from that behavior).

I hope this helps, and is what you are looking for.

Repentance just means to feel sorry or remorse for something.

Religion uses emotional manipulation to gain and keep converts. One way to do this is to instill a feeling of guilt in the followers. Repentance is the church's "solution" for the guilt they instill. They encourage the person to feel sorry to invisible beings for not following impossible rules.

"True Repentance is more than a change of mind or feeling sorry for one's sins. True repentance is a radical and deliberate turn or returning to God that results in a moral and ethical change in action."

To repent means to turn away, to go a different direction. When you ask God to forgive you and you repent of your sins it literally means that you turn away from that sin and do not do those things any longer. In order to receive true forgiveness from God you must truly repent of your sins, you must turn away from them. I hope this helps. God bless you.

The Greek word for repentance is actually a military command for about face. It means to stop whatever you are doing that is sinful and do something exactly opposite. Jesus says those who love me will obey my commands. Do something different
