When your approaching a school zone and your traveling the speed limit, say 40 mph and you need to slow to 20. Is there a specific law stating you must be going 20 mph when you cross the line/sign that says school zone, or can you slow down as you enter. (In my case, I started slowing down just before I entered the zone and the officer clocked me at 33mph just as my front bumper crossed the line, but not joking, was hitting twenty, as in he clocked me as I was hitting my brakes. By the time my entire car had entered the desired line, I was travelling at 20 mph, yet he still pulled me over.)

I didn't say his gun was inaccurate petty man, I was just saying he clocked me halfway in between braking from 40 to 20.

Speed limits are posted and go from sign to sign. Like the goal line in football, anypoint of car over line constitutes in that zone. Now in most cases it is posted prior to zone "Reduce Speed ahead". This is usually an indication the locality is strict on speeders as they have warned you to slow down. In drivers ed it is taught that schools are 20 mph, business districts 35 and residential 15. This is pretty uniform all over. In NASCAR if you "cross the line at the beginning of pit row over 45 mph you are given a penalty". The drivers know this ahead of time as well as any over the road driver knows school zone speed limits. Pay the ticket.

What was the speed limit of the road you were on?.
There are all sorts of indications be it signs or warning markers when appraoching a school zone and most schools are situated in built up areas were speed limits are usualy 30mph.
The reason the speed limit is lowerd in theses areas are to cut down the amount of children killed or hurt by drivers speeding. The fact a police officer was present highlights this as an area were vehicles regulary speed.
If you believe you were not speeding as am sure it was explained to you at the time you can choose to argue the ticket in court.

You MUST be going 20 when you cross the line. The very second the front of your car is even with the sign.
It's like a race. That is the starting line and the second you cross it, you are in the zone.
My whole car wasn't in the school zone won't win that arguement in court unfortunately unless your name ends in 'Hilton"

33 down to 20 in a few feet of space. It makes me wonder whether or not you have kids. Whether you knew where the zone was. OR even cared that children were in your path while you were traveling at 33 miles per hour.

That cop was just looking for people around the area of that school and you happened to be there. Same thing happened to me near a work area. I was behind a cop for a while and we entered a work zone. I slowed down, but he pulled me over anyway.

You have to be at that speed by the time you hit that line period...
So you can try to take that to court and maybe get a reduction in points or you rfine but you were in the wrong

What an asshole! But then again, I 've never met a cop that wasn't a gigantic sore on the *** of society! And by the way the school zone speed limit only applies on school days, during school hours, or while children are present!
