but please keep in mind, you will make eye contact with them when you are physically side by side, just not when you're far apart.

i wasn't aware that there was a term for that but yeah you would be a loser for that. not being able to confront the person. you should have control and try to make the other person uncomfortable.

No, you're not a loser if you do that. To avoid that awkward silence, you might think about the other person being as nervous as you are and make a friendly comment. Looking someone in the eye is a good habit to adapt, even from afar. Just make your look friendly or polite and smile, saying something like "Hi, nice to meet you." or "Hi, nice to see you again." It's get easier every time you do it.
