I am very sorry about your child. An autopsy is a very solemn thing - especially when it involves a child. They will not show you any pictures, and you will never see any evidence that an autopsy has been performed. A preliminary report will tell if your child had anything physically wrong that could have caused his death - something that can be seen, like internal damage. Later, a second report will come in that involves things that can only be discovered through additional lab test - like something that had been ingested or a blood disorder. Talk to the doctor and ask questions, don't be afraid or intimidated. Get everything explained to you where you can understand. Again, I am very sorry about the death of your child.

You'll get a coroners report on the cause of death. An autopsy is conducted to determine the actual cause of death when the death is not apparant. Sometimes insurance companies need this to pay out insurance claims. Sometimes, law enforcement agencies use this to rule out foul play. Most times, however, it used for the death certificate for cause of death.

The report is a description of the subject and it's condition. (well nourished, properly developed, etc. ) as well as a very specific report on other things. (contents of intestines, objects in mouth/throat) and reports on things like body chemistry, blood sugar, and very specific tissue specimens of important areas and hopefully, cause of death.
There are some photographs taken, and a whole drawer full of microscope slides.
You should not generally have to look at any photographs unless you ask to see them.
Sorry about your loss.

No, they'll probably just call you with the results.
I am so sorry about your child. My niece just died 3 weeks ago, and the coroner called the family with findings - no real details and no pictures, but he did answer direct questions when asked.
