Doug Graves was taking a vacation when he read about a bottomless well in a small town. He decided to visit the town, and when he arrived in the town, he stopped at the post office to ask for directions. When he got to the house where the well was, he met a local teacher who claimed she could throw a five-pound weight into the well, no strings or rope attached, and be able to fetch it in ten seconds. How?

Trick question, ha, well there could be many answers but i'll give you the most simple one, since I don't like to loose people with my weird long possible answers, She throws in the weight, ties a rope to her shoe, she throws her self right after the weight, and calculating that the weight weights half of her weight she'll be able to catch in excatly 10 seconds, then she would climb back like batman did in the movie in "Batman and Robin" my parents always thought i had a good imagination, what you think. and is not a trick answer so you can answer me and get the points.

In the question, the 'it' refers back to the previous noun being 'rope'.

The local teacher claimed she could throw a 5 pound wt. in with no strings or rope attached and be able to fetch 'the rope' out in 10 seconds.

The well may be bottomless, but it was filled with water...the weight either float or slowly sink to the bottom gaving her time to fetch it....
