I used to self harm frequently, but now i find myself doing it when im realy depressed (im bipolar). however, to substitute the cutting, i snap myself with rubberbands. For the past 2 days though, while in school, the rubberbands either snaped or got taken away from me. What should i do cause the main reason i used to cut alot was school.

Sine this is a very serious matter you really need to talk to a parent and get counseling for a some point in your life you NEED to find another way to manage stress and feeling depressed-Since you are bipolar you must be getting medication for it from a Psychiatrist(only doctor that can prescribe the medication-most common being Lithium for Bipolar) but if you are still experiencing depression bad enough that you ned to feel pain to make it get better then you need to tell her/him for your medication needs to be adjusted. With the right dosage and the right medication you can have a near normal life . If you are NOT on Medication then discuss parents for again if you are getting depressed to point of self-harm then time to get Professional help. Did therapeutic foster care and sevearal children aroun your age and even younger diagnosed with being Bi-polar and one even with Psychoses and the difference the medication made was remarkable and life was so much easier for them. Of course they also had counseling mainly to keep track of how they were progressing and if changes had to be made the doctor was up to date and also for them to talk -sometimes much easier when not parent or someone whom one is emotionally involved with and sometimes group therapy with other bi-polar kids. Instead of hurting yourself esp in school-try having a notebook-choose a word that to you represents Power-Release and when the stress,frustration--emotion hits write that word until the emotion gets better--you are putting the hurt into that word and by writing it down you are putting it away from you. I really hope you get better and get the help you need for its hard enough just being a teen but hang in there it'll get bettter. Hope I was able to help

Break yourself from the habit...No matter how hard it could be. Just find something to occupy your depressed self when you feel like you should snap a rubberband.

My friend used to cut herself, and to stop it, whenever she felt depressed she just wrote whatever came to her mind for 5-10 minutes, if the teacher doesnt allow this, talk to them about it at lunch or after school one day

One, you need to stop hurting yourself. I would know from doing this to myself too, that it only hurts other people around you. You need to find another way to vent, i swim laps, write music, and pray. Find your gig, and if you cant help yourself, go to a teacher, or anministrator, they can help you or find porfessional help. I know right now that doesnt sound like the right thing to do, but do it. It makes a world of diffrence. Please stop, there are people that care. :)

Writing on myself with an ink pen helped me as a former cutter?!
