How would you reverse the escalation in rhetoric & threats from all sides and reduce the chance of being sucked into a possible WW3?

Should Bush stop his Axis of Evil threats? Should Bush stop his silly refusal to talk to Iran? Should Israel come clean and admit to having nukes, but agree to destroy them if Iran ends nuclear work? Should Iran make a cast iron promise never to start a conflict with Israel? Should Iran and Syria help the USA sort out the Iraq disaster? Should all nations open a new embassy in the each others country and build political and commercial ties?

Or do you think the Neocons & Ahmadinejad want a military conflict?

How do you see this moving forward? Are you concerned? If you’re not, perhaps you’re unaware of the forces we’ll unleash by taking on Iran.

Serious answers please, because this is a serious danger. No racism.

I think that the troubles in the Middle east stem from 2 things, oil and water; desired by US and Israel respectively.

I also think that one incident that needs to be re-looked at is the Hariri assasination. It is important to think who really killed him; who had to gain by killing him.

This was the trigger for a Syrian withdrawal from Lebanon, allowing Isreal to move in and wreck havoc, where they clashed with Hezbollah, supported by Iran, and where they are supposed to have used cluster bombs and new weapons (DIME) that they did not develop themselves.

These sides (US+Israel, Iran, Syria)are fighting a proxy war, and as long as the resources of one side are wanted by the other, then we will have conflict.

Bush will not stop is Axis of Evil threats because these keep him and the Republicans in power. He might be secretly talking to Iran, may be via proxies. This might even be part of the pull-out plan from Iraq.

Iraq is facing the real threat of civil war, and Turkey is threatening to intervene in the Kurdish North. If the US troops pull out and there is no other power in Iraq, Iraq could be invaded again, this time from the North. This could trigger a war with Iran, unless secret negociations are taking place, just like at Yalta.

I think that any pull-out of US troops from Iraq will have to involve, at least covertly, negotiations with Iran and Turkey. This would take care of the US side of the equation, allowing US access to Iraqi oil.

The case of Israel is different however. What they want is water. And Syria is a target. It will take all the diplomacy of the US to hold Israel slightly back. And this is necessary for the US to pull-out from Iraq.

Iran and Syria, if they are to cooperate on Iraq, will require the US to hold back Israel. And these negotiations between the US and Israel can even be couched as peacemaker-US again solving Middle East issues, specifically the Lebanon issue.

In sum, I think diplomacy will prevail. The US has access to oil, and now needs to pull-out from Iraq. And to do so, it needs Iran especially, to agree to a plan with Turkey. In exchange it will have to hold back Israel. Some of the negotiations will be overt, some covert, but the end-result is unlikely to be WW3.

Bush has blown it big on Iran if they really want nuclear energy for peacful purposes. We can help them with that, and by the way there is going to be a huge earthquake to strike Iran within the next four years, if they have operating nuclear plants it will be devestating. We have the technology to help them with that.

But newflash, not what anyone wants to hear, but they don't want peacful nuclear energy. They only have 70 million citizens, and they set on the largest oil deric in the world. They have no need for nuclear energy. They are, I believe afraid of America. We have helped them in some respects by eleminating two traditional enemies on their boarders; the taliban, and Saddam. But now we're there, and that scares them even more.

The second problem to diplomacy is that no promise they make is one that can be trusted. Your scenario might play out in a perfect world, but we all know the world isn't perfect. Iran is run by radical ultra theist who subscribe to the most extremely perverted brand of an estiological faith called Islam, and believe it is their divine repsonsiblity to bring about an apocalyptic end of days. They want a world war three. They've declared on three seperate occasions over the last year that one member state of the U.N. (Israel) should be physically wiped off the map with all its people. They have proofably lied to the European Union about their nuclear program, they fund Hezbollah upward to the toon of one hundred million dollars a year, and the President of that country says that he believe the messiah is coming back. They have agents in North Korea for their missile and nuclear test, and the only request America has put on Iran for one on one talks is that they stop enriching uranium, but they don't.

Newsflash again; this has nothing to do with the creation of palestinian state. Palestians are taught from youth that jews and christians are dogs, and prophet killers, and should be killed. So no matter what is done as long as racism is being taught, there will still be problems.

Iran does want a war, the question is- how envolved will Europe be in a war if one starts? In reality, were probably going to see limited strikes on their nuclear facilities, but not an all out war.

China and Russia mainly do not want a diplomatic solution because they are selling technology to Iran that helps them develop nuclear power and weapons. Just look at the materials found just after our invasion of Iraq, there were recent weapons from Russia in the hands of captured Iraqis and evidence of shipments up to days before the US led action. Neither Russia or China will go along with real diplomatic solutions with their current leadership because they make to much money trading with these terrorist sponsoring countries.

The only answer is for Israel to stop attacking their neighbors and to comply with UN resolution242 to return the territory they stole in 1967
