I have always found male cats to be much more affectionate than females....but that is a general statement. Cats, like people, are individuals. Females seem to be more affectionate as kittens and more distant as adults.
I wouldn't be surprised is she is "ignoring" you back for leaving her and going to work. Try this. Get some cat treats...there are so many out there, it can be difficult to make a choice, but our guys like the Whiskas crunchy ones. Anyway, find one she likes. Now, make your lap the only place she gets one of the treats. Dole them out one at a time. Pet, pet, pet, treat...and repeat. LOL. While you are petting her talk softly about how much you love her and miss her when you are at work. Oh, and don't give her the treats any other way....the price of the treat is for her to be in your lap.
Hey, it's worth a try.

Do you have a regular grooming routine? Cats are very rigid little personalities - that's part of their charm. We don't ask them to be like (working) dogs and adapt and learn tricks, we like them the way they are. Perhaps something has changed in the daytime, to which you are not privy.
MAybe she is angry at being left alone; perhaps there aren't enough toys for her. Or she has grown up and - as an adult - doesn't want to sit iny our lap any longer. Sometimes they get into snits and phases; after a while they give up and return to their former habits. The best thing is to find something that she likes - such as catnip or a lick of butter - and bribe her to come to you. Then judge whether she wants to be petted or left alone.

Unfortunatly, cats are solitairy animals. There is not to much you can do, since your cat's personality is what it is.
However, there are a few things that might help. Make it a habit to give her treats and play (cats love to chase laser pointers!!) Whenever you get the chance-at least once a day. Soon, she'll look forward to whatever you give her. After a while, she should start warming up.
If you need to, you can make her come into your lap for her treat and become more friendly from there.
Good Luck!!!

i have a cat around the same age as yours. we used to be close, but skool got in the way and he wouldnt want me to pet him anymore. what i did was love him extra hard when ever i could - i bought him treats, played with him, horsed around, that kind of stuff. eventually he warmed back up to me. another thing you could do is get another cat or something - so ur cat wont get lonely while your gone. i have a dog as well as a cat and they get along great - like best friends. if i know hes not alone, i know he isnt lonely. well, i hope i helped at least a little!

Sadly, you probably can't change her. I noticed that you said "she" and I have personally noticed that female cats are a lot more fickle than males. She is probably mad at you for leaving her, that's how my cat's get too. Maybe if you got another cat or a kitten it would keep her busy. It really helped my cat when I got another one. They hated each other at first but now they're the best of friends.
Good Luck :)

it is extremely hard to get a cat to do anything you want it to do. she is mad at you and you'll just have to deal with her until she realizes that you work so she can a good home, food in her bowl and all the love she can handle. eventually she will love you again. good luck.

It kinda starts when they are young. If you hold them all of the time and give them attention, maybe talk to them they will learn to trust and feel safe with people.
