I would say the best tip would be to know what you're getting into. Realize that it will be hard, and it may not seem worth it at times, but if you're really willing to work on it then it can work out. Don't put too much pressure on the relationship and realize that with distance comes perspective, so try to give each other time to process news before reacting strongly to it. Be patient, and realize that a true friendship and connection can withstand distance and time, so don't try to force it. I hope that helps.

Half the battle is if you two are really serious about each other. Send greeting cards frequently, the ones that have all the mush about missing them. Frequent text messages. Just keep in as much contact as you can. If it's "true love", your love will carry you through the distance till you can be together. Good luck.

Send him little notes in the mail daily or weekly, send him nice emails, talk whenever you can. I am a college student in a long distance relationship also. Its hard, but if you guys love each other, you'll make it work, besides, you'll be together again in a few short months.

I had a LD boyfriend for awhile before I was married, and we made sure to include each other in our routines. Like, we would watch TV together on the phone, or we would talk while we were eating dinner. Not the most romantic things, but its the day-to-day stuff that we missed.

Seriously, a really cheap phone plan. I have unlimited long distance for $25 a month. My boyfriend and I spend hours talking every night.

Web cam and phone has worked for me. If you are going to get intimate on the cam just remember to first install a firewall and scan your computer for trojans and viruses.

Cards, letters, emails, IM's , test messaging, webcam, etc.....
Talk alot on the phone. Don't go out with other people.
If it gets too bad, go visit in person for a weekend.

Understanding is No. 1. You have to understand that his not gonna be at home every-time you call. You have to understand that its only temporary. You have to understand the true meaning and value of your relationship.
